Induction kit

Well i tried to take a pic to help explain what i mean but the cameras and my phone are both dead so i drew up a nice little paint diagram for you all to help illustrate my problem.....

Ive just bougt a BMC CDA but due to the way the engines layed out in my vectra 2.2 direct it looks like it will have to sit like this:

My only problem is that will there be any issues with the way the air feed is set up? As it will have to do a 180deg turn to get into the filter? I would obviously prefer to have it without the 180 bend so when i take the original airbox off i might find that it fits but at the moment its not looking promising.

The other question is, on the end of the air box now there is a little section of tubing with a sensor attached not sure what i is, any ideas? I take it i will still need to fit this? I guess it will be measuring the air flow... So will cause a fault if i remove it?

When the camera is charged il get a pic to try and demonstrate a bit better.... If anyone understood any of that garbage all help would be much appreciated :thumbup:

Hi mate, didnt know yours was a Direct, dont think mine has the thing on the airbox as you describe. Both me and Vid looked into the routing of the airflow on the Vec C, Vids idea was to block the intake of the BMC and make his own hole in the side of it so there actual 90 bend would be the filter itself. My way was to take route the intake via the battery box, but this would involve extending the MAF loom.

Yeah mines a direct, it doesnt have that bit youve popped in black on mine but you do have the thing im talking about by the looks of it. Its the bit in the red circle 🙂

I never thought about putting it over the other side just automatically went for where the air box is at the moment

american setup for the z22se has the air intake pipe going on that side

you got the evap vacuum motor, air temp sensor to rewire then the nice task of the air flow meter on the vec C

have a look at the induction kit on the old skool civic type R's

Any chance you could explain that a bit simpler for me? 🙁 there was me just thinking it would be a case of just popping it on and away it goes...

Ah okay, so would it be alright to have put that right down at the end of the pipework next to the engine? Or would it need to stay near the filter? I dont suppose it would make much difference would it?

Yeah i might have a go at poppin it down at that end and see how it goes. The way its set up in my diagram will having the 180 bend be alright?

Its just a case of not making it any worse than stock mate. The less bends the better. The stock airbox has a funnel in it that I believe helps the airflow align over the MAF, so I presume its better not to have any bends just before the MAF. Also keep it well before the Cam breather outlet, last thing you need is it to be covered by oil poo. How much clearance is there from the TB 90 and the bonnet? You could give it a bit more height so you could angle it a bit more back if you get what I mean and follow the normal route. How long is the filter?

Il take a pic and have a measure in a bit, I was thinking of following the normal route for now, then maybe having a play about with it later on and see what i can get 🙂

have the vectras not got a hole in the inner wing? the astras do so i put the cold air feed in there and the filter and piper is straight to the TB just with the bend on top of the TB

Yep I think they do mate but its then all blocked off by the arch liner. The Vec has a big air scoop just behind the grill so trying to incorporate it what we try and aim for. The NET is far easier as the intake goes to the turbo round the back so no large bends before it gets compressed. The stock airbox is huge, it looks double the size of the Vec B one. Fitting a cone inside it would work but need loads of messing about to make it look factory.

Well i took the airbox out to have a look today and i think ive got it planned out.

Im going to try and use the big air intake thats already there as its massive, pop on a reducer and connect the bmc straight to that. Then i recon i should be able to get away with a 90deg bend to the flow meter thingy then a straight then 90deg bend to the inlet and job done!

I would have taken some pics but my phones dead and i left my camera back at my place, but im up at the parents for xmas. So will hopefully see some progress coming soon 😃

I don't think there's any other way than to use at least one 90.

my viper used to have the 180 in it and it worked better than stock, i wouldnt worry too much.

Its alright to have bend before the filter but not after it that's what you want to try an avoid.
