Frozen handbrake!!!

Has anyone experienced this in the cold weather, that their handbrake has seized up and the back wheels are locked up more or less completely. could hear and feel something wasn't right at the rear so opened the door when i was creeping along and the back wheels were being dragged along the ice dunno.. what can i do to help prevent this any one got any ideas notsure.gif

leave it in gear with out the handbrake on or i just kick the wheel really hard

it freezes in the sleve mine has done it a couple of times now. u need to warm the sleve up and then fill it with spray oil then it dont freeze

Had 2 astras come into work this morning with this too...

i just give the car a good push sideways with the handbrake off and usually you can hear a clicking noise

Depends if the shoes are stuck in the drum,or if the cables were frozen as they were on the astras toda, had to give the cables a wiggle....

im lazy i get a blow torch out and heat the handbrake cables up lol

I used to have this problem in my old astra, yep left the handbrake off but in gear. My coupe doesn't have this problem though.

My Astra diesel started giving me this problem last week when the first snowfalls came. I decided to take the chance and drag the car to work, after about 5 or 6 miles the handbrake had released itself. Needless to say i now leave the handbrake off and in 1st gear.

Is this a common problem with Vauxhall's???

Ive always Had this Problem! last year in my 22 and now with the turbo coupe. couple of weeks ago, after work at 5pm. It locked on rock soild so much that even when i drove home 9 miles, i still had one wheel was locked on all the way! I had hardley had any control over the car. Had my Hazzards on doing 10mph!! 😮 lol

our did it in the dec snow... now its left in 5th or reverse after the other half forgot it was in gear and started the car into the neighbours fence in 1st lol

my sister did the exact same, but in her clio, shame it wasnt a fence. i got the blame for parkin it too close to the house and leaving it in gear. never mind the handbrake bein almost unusable and it ending up rollin back down the drive and doin a cheeky unassisted half j turn last week, :lol:
