Oil Milkshake - Emulsification

What causes it?

I get this at the end and of my dipstick and up the stem. (This sounds like an interview at the G.U.M clinic!)

I have no coolant loss at all though - and have had mixed driving so not all cold starts and short journeys. There is no build up of excessive pressure in the cooling system (symptoms of head gasket/cracked head).

I know these engines are notorious for this but it's puzzling me. Plus I am using about a litre of oil in 700 miles. Semi synthetic ain't cheap!

Sounds like head gasket mate. Have you done a compression test?

May be a condensate from breather?
But it's on dipstick hmmm .... Usually it appears on oil fill cap... notsure.gif

Do a fresh oil change and go for a long run. Could condensation.

Other then that could be HG failure.

Genuine Semi Sythentic is cheap as from autovaux.

usually caused by short journeys on the z22se, head gasket failure is very rare

it is down to a knackered stat as well if the engine is not warming up properly

as i found out replacing mine the stat rubber seals disintegrate allowing water to pass through even though it has not opened

engine reaches operating temps within 5 - 10 minutes now [85c] where as before it took a lot lot longer thus short journey's create loads of white crap on oil filler cap

worth replacing coolant temp sensor and stat whilst giving her an oil change and see how u get on if u notice she struggles to get above 80c

Considered that Mike but car gets up to temperature nicely and running between usual limits. The temp guage on normal driving gets to just below half way in about 10-15 mins of driving. Heater is nice and warm in this cold weather so can probably eliminate that.

I don't think it can be the head gasket as there is no coolant loss whatsoever. The car does use a bit of oil, and smokes a little when rev'ved hard.

last year i was driving 20 mins to work every day and after a week or so i took the filler cap off and there use to be 2 or 3 mm or mayo covering the cap

Cheers Mike - I guess my recourse is to keep it topped up regularly. Hey it cant be all bad - at least its constantly getting good oil circulating!

i had a nova 1.0 with a knackered crank, use to get through around a litre of oil every 500 miles

i sold it 18 months after the crank went and did 18k with the knackered bottom end

was using mineral duckhams oil on it

she was sold as a runner lol
