Cams for the 2.2

I am defo thinking of getting some cams for my 2.2. When I buy them would it be worth doing anything else while the top is open, can you get some other preformance stuff to add in notsure.gif . Thanks

don't bother with vernier wheels for the cams, as the guys in the usa found out - standard setting is best

I've got the 'pipercams' reprofiled 266 degree cams in mine and recommend them.

the standard cams are only 244 degree :shock:

So just by adding the cams only will be ok? I might have a look at the piper ones 😃 . 244 to 266 Sounds much better :-) . Cheers

Why do they want our cams in the deal notsure.gif horse2.gif . I know a lad who could fit them cheap enough also :-)

they have your cams cus they just reprofile your cams and send em back to you .........

Ah, so all they do is take yours, mod them and give you them back so you still end up with your originals lol. This is defo a mod I am thinking of, I just can't afford to have the car off road while I wait for the cams :roll:

If you phone them up and pre-book the regrind, they can turn them round in a couple of days

Cheers Ffoeg. The only times I get off is the weekends notsure.gif . I also had the chance to get a full head from a 2.2 once, that would have made life better for the cams to be sent off :roll:

Did you think it necessary to upgrade the valve springs?

I see Thorney and Courtenay now offer the Shrick cams which come with double springs as standard.

There was a story that Piper cams on the throttle body development vx 'buzzed' the head, due to the follower not being able to follow the cam profile, causing the arms to crack.

but I don't know if they would be an improvement / up to the task... what..

edit: I should mention that website only produces parts for the 2.2 L61 Ecotec, no idea of that is the same head as ours...

double valve springs would be needed if the rev limit was raised from 6750 (standard vx220 = 6300 :shock: )

Wow those Schrick kits are £1k for supply only! They must be good. hail..

Are you getting anything else done while there (head machining, remap etc)?

The engine has already had the Courtenay CS4 work done. I went up back in January for that mod and at the time the cams were withdrawn because of problems. So i'm getting the package completed now with the new Schrick cams.
