timing chain snapped

hi everyone.. new to the site... wish i had seen this site b4, as my 2.2 astra coupe had been sounding rattely 4 ages.. everyone said it must be tappets... it was sounding like a diesal!! which i'v read on here is one of the 1st signs!! oh well 2 late... i was litterally pulling out of my parked space and wasnt doing anymore then like 10 or 15mph when it snapped.. would it still have bent the valves ect?? or is it less likely? i didnt realise the chain had snapped so tryed 2 start it again.. would this have caused more damage? wishing it is just a timing chain replacement required rather then engine... someone please help... i live in bromley south london. :cry:

you may be lucky and get away with a couple of bent inlet valves as your speed was low, so just get it repaired :thumbup:

sorry to hear the bad news but welcome to the site you should find some helpful info to help ya out if you're going to attempt it yourself.

thanks... i'm hopin it isnt 2 much damage.. i'v got this aa breakdown repair thing. which pays out up2 £500 per claim which should cover timing chains snapping.. so hav 2 get someone from a garage to have a look at it for me first 2 asses the damage. but if tht cover pays out then it will at least help me out money wise

where abouts are you? it may be worth giving daz or benny a shout.
i dont know wether they could do it officially enough for your cover but if there is little damage.... notsure.gif

i'm in south london.. classed as kent really.. so i dunno who the best person 2 use would be.. i'v got the car 2 a garage at the mo.. theyr quotin around £750 but theyr taking the head off in the mornin to see what the damage is 1st. i just thought that cos it didnt happen at a fast speed theyr wouldnt be as much damage.. but will be finding out what it is 2moro!! fingers crossed! :thumbup:

got the final quote now... £825!! the engine got 12 bent valves... the guides are knackered aswell.. chain obviously snapped and what eva else they said was wrong wiv it! lol hav 2 laugh otherwise i'l cry!! 🙁

how likely is it that the bottom end would go after a while of this repair? i'v heard of it happenin... but i jus thought that it would be a stronger/better engine after gettin all this work done.. as it will get new head gasket.. valves ect...??
