z22yh for z22se????

hi im new here. . . . . tomorrow me and my mate are going to put a z22yh from a zafira into an astra coupe which has the z22se engine, the coupes engine has failed so want to put the zafira engine in there, we have done many vauxhall engine conversions before but mainly on older engines and not on these 2 engines.

what we need to know is. . . .

we are hoping that we can use the ecu and wiring loom from thew z22se on the z22yh just to save us from messing with the immobiliser etc.

also as the zafira is automatic and the coupe is manual so is it possible to just bolt the gearbox from the z22se onto the z22yh

thats about it, everything else we are fine with

any help is appreciated as we want to start t tomorrow 😃

I'm certain that these 2 engines are not compatible regarding the ECU etc.

oh ok, is it possible then to transfer the whole lot then. . . . the wiring loom along with ecu from the zafira or will that muddle up with the immobiliser???

got any info on the gearbox, is it possible to just change the gearbox over from the auto to manual???

think what we will have to do is change over the engine loom, ecu, transponder, chips in keys etc, the whole lot.

just need to know if the manual gearbox off the z22se with fit the z22yh

i dont know about the gearbox,
i fear johnny is right
you may have a problem with the ecu' not being compatible with the car if the new engine used to run a CAN based ecu system.
if this is the case "welcome to my world!" wy engine swap has been held up by this problem,
(im converting to a z20net) tried every avenue to consider using both the z20net ecu or the origional z22se ecu to no avail,
im now awaiting delivery of a manual throttle body coz i have to now turn to megasquirt

could you not use the old coupe inlet manifold as i thought that the block and head were the same just the sensors and fuel injection system were different.
If the block is the same then i can't see any reason why you couldn't use the manual gear box as the bell housing bolt pattern should also be the same??

yeah thats a good point, i will have a look tomorrow and hopefully if i can bolt on the z22se inlet onto the z22yh that should sort it,

unless heads are different

the z22yh cannot easily replace the z22se :thumbdown:

the z22yh uses a high pressure fuel system - the z22se system uses a low pressure system

the z22yh engine has a different crank trigger wheel than the z22se so the z22se ecu simply won't work on the z22yh engine

the z22yh ecu won't be very easy to wire into the z22se loom, possibly it uses CAN technology too :thumbdown:

but it will bolt straight in if you retain the z22yh clutch and flywheel, but the z22se might fit the crank depending whether they share the same bolt pattern

to be honest you will save yourself many hours and probably at least a £1k if you sell the z22yh and buy the correct z22se cryb..

Well done Neil. I was sat on the bog in work this afternoon replying to this thread and was racking my brains for the reasons why it wouldn't be an easy swap.

for two engines which look so similar, they even share the same block, they are worlds apart :thumbdown:

you may as well fit a z20let as that would be easier :wtf:

im sorry if this all appears to be a bit negative,
but it'll take a lot of hard work, money and a lot of optimism to complete the job,
one of only reason's i continued with my conversion was i had nothing to lose, and my mate who is helping would have thought less of me if i didn't squeeze something out of the ordinary in there! also a lot of the components on the z20net are almost an exact match for the z22se(cooling system fuel system etc)

yep well you was right, it aint going to be easy at all, we got the engine out the coupe and then took the engine out the zafira, and looked exactly the same. . . we was going to swap over the inlet manifold and the fuel side of things but the inlets are different, so are the holes for the injectors so nothing is compatible, obviously we could try changing everything over from the zafira into the coupe but as said its going to take alot of time and money and it may not even work so weve got another z22se now so will bolt straight in,

so if anyone wants a 14k milage z22yh engine let me know as we need it gone now,
