Hi everyone. My name is Lisa aka Crazychick, and my partner is Mark, aka Rockster, hence the 'Crazyrock' username 🙂

We live in Surrey, have been Vauxhall fanatics for quite a few years now. I have recently sold my much loved, and totally cherished V6 Calibra, due to needing more space.

I am now looking to get a Vec B estate. Problem is.....I want another V6, but Mark reckons a 2.2 is the way to go. I am aware that the 2.2 are re-nound for being more reliable due to being driven by chain rather than cambelt. But the problem is...Im rather power hungry. My cally, produced 189bhp with 173.4lbft, and a damn near perfect power curve. The only mod's on it were, a rather stupid cone filter (On a v6??!! It was on it when i brought...soon came off!!),powerflow exhaust and de-cat.

Not bad me thinks..

So, my questions is....what benefits/losses are there in getting a 2.2 over a V6? Have any of you had a standard 2.2 rolling roaded, so I can compare?? And, how tune-able are the 2.2's, and what output can I expect without spending silly amounts??

I have very limited knowledge of 2.2's...hence why I have joined your forum, and asked people in the know 😃

think youve come to the right place these lads know there stuff
yes the 2.2 is a gud tunable engine
Just one thing to watch for is the 02 reg and before suffer with oil starvation
to the chain due to a undersized oil jet to the chain you will find loads of info on here about it

hello and welcome to the site cheers..

to get approx 170-180 bhp from the z22se you will need;

4-1 exhaust manifold - piper
stage 1 cams - piper or comp cams
sports cat and 2.5" downpipe
2.5" cat back exhaust
ported throttle body
replacement intake pipework
k+n panel filter in a derestricted airbox with the three pipe mod

just to give you an idea of the bhp possibilities.....

stage 1 supercharger - 210+ bhp
stage 2 supercharger - 250+ bhp
stage 2+ supercharger up to 300 bhp
stage 3 with harrop supercharger up to 380 bhp

turbo charged 250+bhp

up to 250 bhp with throttle bodies

2.2 vectra is the same weight as a 1.8 vectra but with an extra 30 bhp, V6 is a heavy lump

I wanted the V6 bad so I test drove a one year old 2.6 V6 vectra sri and a one year 2.2 vectra sri, I bought the 2.2 :thumbup:

I found the V6 very lazy and the 2.2 very eager, both were low mileage so no wear and tear issues, just a back to back road test. Also the 2.2 does more mpg than the V6.

But I do still love the V6 engine sound 8)

ps: I kept the 2.2 vectra sri for almost 7 years and it never let me down cheers..

As far as the V6 sound goes...OMG...I LOVE IT!!! That's half the prob! I've had a 3.0 V6 conversion SRI Vec, and the V6 Cally..and I suppose I'm finding it hard to move away from that.

Basically, I want something that will give me a good return on MPG when I'm just to and fro-ing from school, but, will then give me a good 'grin factor' when I'm out of 'mummy' mode. It won't stay standard, by any stretch of the imagination...

I am getting swayed toward the 2.2...a lot lighter engine..more eager etc, just moving away from the V6's, is hard 😃

hi Guys Rockster here...

cheers for your input... think Crazychick is still in need of convincing... but were going to test drive a 51 plated vec, and looking at the power to weight, a 2.2 should be quite close to a V6..

were not looking to big modd's to the engine, prob will just be exhaust, sport cat and filter with the airbox mod...

Hello and welcome to the site.

The 2.5 V6 on paper is only half a second quicker to 60 than the 2.2, and the 2.6 V6 should do it in just under 1 second quicker.

throw the back seats and spare tyre away! that'll help with some of that half a second! (kids 'll have to rattle about a bit!)
the astra is technicly lighter and slightly quicker than the vec z22s also.
