Well for fireworks, to get the trails off them, you'd need a tripod and remote trigger. Set the shooting mode to bulb, high aperture, say f/15 to make sure it doesn't get flooded with light and over expose the image. Set the ISO to say 200/400 also.
Fire the camera when you see the firework launch, and shut it off when it's finished.......should work!
