Stuck wheel locking nut

Help again guys please.
i lost the wheel locking nut for my veccy, needed to take the wheel off, so i went with the idea of whacking a socket over the top to undo it....bad move as the wheel locking not has a spinner round it so the socket is nice and tight but just spins ...Doh !! and not the socket is stuck and i cannot get it off, the only way i can think is to drill through the locking nut and use a stud extraction kit but i have used about 8 drill bits and the are just not touching the locking nut, any ideas would be really welcome

I had the same thing happen, straight to the local garage who managed to get enough grip on it to remove the nut.

if your using shabby drill bits i wouldn't bother m8 plus u might bugger something up, do as Drakey did and go to a garage they will sort it shouldn't cost much and if they bugger something then they have to fix it.

Hi Martyn, they werent cheap drill bits, i have used titanium and tungsten not cheap, probably will be cheaper to take it somewhere, if i could get the socket off i would be ok cos i found the locking wheelnut key now :sick:

try mole grips at a 45 degree angle and a piece of verticle wood to rest uder the grips to create a ses saw type thing and then tap away at the handle side of the grips with a hammer

Just tap at it different sides m8 use a hammer and bolster, wrap a tea towel around the bolster as to not mark your wheels m8 and when your tapping the socket tap the other side that way it should work it free. Spray loads of WD40 prior......... or go for a drive about 140mph and watch it ping off

Tried that one not workin i have resorted to a mini pneumatic drill to woek the socket off gonna try it tomorrow mate wish me luck lol

go to a tyre fitter most have sockets that can remove locking wheel nuts

Get yourself some cobolt drill bits them things will go through anything. or you could weld a bit of bar to it witha bit of a handle then undo it that way.

well im gonna go at it again tomorrow, i will try the cobalt drill bits if your recommending them

I think there just about the hardest drills you can buy. There not cheep tho. for a 3/8 drill bit its about 15-20 quid. i normaly use them at work on stainless cus normal drills just melt.

we used these in prison cells they are strong. and worth the money

Ive melted a few expensive drill bits trying to remove lockers in work

well i managed to get the socket off the locking nut but i have damaged the locking nut so the locking kew wont fit, so i will get some cobalt drills on monday and hopefully drill it out

for what its worth m8 just pop into a garage and ask them if they can have a bash at getting it off . go to quick-fit they will prob do it free or a tenner.

as i said most tyre fitters have the tool to remove the It is basically a socket with a left had thread inside the tighter you turn the socke the better the grip
