Drinks holders in vec b

Hey guys... ive been toying with the idea of making an "adaptor" for the front drinks holders in a vectra B to allow it to securely hold a red bull size can... i spent some time considering the best way to go about making such an adaptor... and gave it a go with wood... was turning out pretty well until it came to increasing the size of the centre where the can fits...

ended up struggling to get it just right to hold the can without being too tight or too loose.

so anyways... i think its about time to give up on it... but... i was thinking somone must have had this idea before... so do you guys know of any sort of adaptor which can be bought to fit inside the original drinks holders to allow them to support the smaller size cans?

any ideas would be appreciated.

No I was being serious, I found almost every bottle toppled in the vectra, cans being non resealable were never an option.... but I found an oasis bottle or something that fitted a treat, washed and filled that.

You could always just put it in the centre console(under the arm rest?) or buy relentless?lol

Polystyrene or rubber (the soft type) cut it to shape of the redbull can, and it will also allow cans a little bigger as it will 'give' and isnt sturdy like wood.. just a thought

Also being a bigger can I feel I'm getting more energy. Or is that just in my head?pmsl.

if your on a decent length journey or you're going to be out and about for a while... relentless probably isnt the best thing considering the size of the can... more drink = more trips to the toilet :lol:

I like the idea of polystyrene... but i thought it might end up breaking up and making a mess all over the car once its been used a few times. rubber or foam may also be a good idea... but its finding some that would be big enough and cost effective enough to make it out of...

i even thought of using a normal sized can... but cut the top off and then fill inside with something around the reb bull can to get the mould of it, then use sand paper and increase the size slightly so the can fits in and out better... main problem with this idea is that the top edge of it will obviously be sharp...

just wondered if anyone had had this idea before and come up with something thats works, or even if there is an adaptor in production... might have a look in the tacky section of halfrauds and see if i can find anything there 😃

Cut open a can fill part way with normal silicone push red bull into it and let it set. When it's set remove and use on it's own(no sharp edges) only problem is the silicone will take a while to set, and if it's too thick then the centre of the cast then it may not set at all.

good idea... hadn't thought of silicone :thumbup:

dont know if it would be stiff enough though... the actual difference in size isnt massive so it may be a little on the flexible size... good news is it should set ok... could be worth a shot! :clap:

Hope it works for ya fella. Doesn't need to be that stiff as the red bull can will hold the shape when it's in there, you just need to fill the gap between holder and can.

yep... but if you're using the inside of the can as the mould then would the silicone not be about 1mm or so smaller than is needed to fit the holder correctly... just thinking that the slightest bit of movement could cause the can to move enough to fall over... with it being quite a tall can.

would also have to carefully remove silicone from inside where the red bull can would fit to ensure it can be removed freely enough from the adaptor rather than having a lump of silicone stuck to the bottom of the can...

anyway... i think this is the best bet so far... ill give it a go and see what happens. :thumbup:

The wall thickness of a can is so thin it won't make any difference as long as the can was a snug fit in the first place. Before you fill the larger can you can make a cut down the side so when it's all set you can tear the larger can apart so no lump at the bottom. It'll be fine, get your self some clear or black silicone. Ya never know there might be a trip to the dragons den if it works? Don't forget me if ya do..... lol.

i was meaning stuck to the bottom of the red bull can when you're using it... becuase it would be more of a snug fit onto the can than it would be in the drinks holder... I'll have a play around and see what i can come up with... will probably be in a couple of weeks time before i get chance to now though... busy busy busy at the moment :crazy:

Pmsl might have to give it a go now just to see, even though I don't drink red bull as a rule.
