HELP ME :(

just been out to turn my car on and i have noticed before i even put the key in the ignition that my lights on the dashboard such as the engine management light and the one with the little spanner and the handbrake brake light is flashing but very dim as there is power coming through but not enough to power the lights completly... the weird thing is that my key isnt even in.....

when starting the car all whats left on is the management light..

any ideas what this could be??
alternator???? im stuck 🙁

i dont know what it could be... going up through the revs aswell i hear a whinning noise so im guessing the pulley has gone and total knacked the alternator up... but normally the power steering goes...

i have just checked again and the battery light is also one.. without the car been started.. the seem to be fading in and out... 🙁 dunno..

what about unplugging the alternator and see what happens - the small black socket on the side

how do i access the alternator to either replace it or remove the black clip???

also have been onto my local electrical car repair man, and he told me that it may be a short somewhere, may be earthing out...

i had a major oil leak from crank seal and oil pump seal which was replaced and oild got everywhere, may be in alternator and causing distruption :think:

ill get there in the end notsure.gif i hope haha

get underneath the car and find the alternator and you will see some wires connected

just unbolt the connections

Hi Naz, on the Z22SE the power steering pump is independant to the alternator belt so that wouldnt be affected, the black clip you are talking about, is it the small one? if so there is a bit of plastic attached to it and all you do is pull it to the side or get a small screwdriver and insert it and it will release the clip, if you are talking about the big plastic nut shaped cap then this is part of the nut for the main wire to the alternator, simply put a spanner on it and unbolt.
it is definitely looking like a short if the dash is half lit, you say the engine management light is on, do you know anyone with a code reader ? worth a shot

right here is the dodgy thing, have taken the alternator plugs off and checked that... no change.....

Been to an mechinacle electrical enginer person and he was stumped...

i have noticed now that if i put the car in reverse the lights go off..

it is earting out somewhere and dont know where 🙁

That dose sound like a dodgy earth or something shorting out. Its a process of elimination tho youl have to start with the simple things like checking the earths that go to the block and your ecu earth, check all your battery cables and battery to body cable, also check the bung wich holds all the cables that go through the bulkhead. basicly youl have to check all of it for sighns of damage or short. What a nightmare hope you find the fault.
