vectra c 2.2 engine ecu swap is it possible

if my engine ecu is knackered and i need to change it, do i only need to change the engine ecu and the transponder for the key, will it need reprogramming to the rest of the car? does anyone now for definite before i pay out for the ecu and transponder and keys ?

u need a vectra c ecu. transponder & chip

worth just paying to get the ECU checked before u spend time looking for one

where can i get the ecu checkec Mike, can i take it off and take or send it somewhere to be checked?

i cant believe it wont work after u had her running for 30 mins

Theres afew places around the net that can test and fix ecu's....

But dont use the ecu doctor....had a few bad experainces of his work at work...

what concerns me is that there is no ecu light nor does she turn over

would a faulty alternator cause this ?

Its very odd.....As mentioned in my post b4...i'd be checking the signal wire at the starter to make sure its getting a 12v when in the crank possition,and then if it is be checking theres a good earth at the engine and at the ecu....Seems very much like the problem we had on the corsa in work the other week....and that was a bad earth under the battery tray,which goes to the ecu...

Hi Daz,
i have checked all of the main earths, and supplied extra connections with jump leads, no luck there, i have tested to see if there is 12v going to the starter and there isnt (that is on the small wire when the key is in the start position)

Mike what would the alternator cause problems with, thats a new one to me mate
and Daz i reckon it is gonna be something simple i have just gotta find it lol, it is really doing my head in now because i have rebuilt the engine, new valves, seals guides, shell, rings etc and it fired up lovely for an hour os so at 1400 rpm (air leak on inlet manifold) then just died on me, Back on it tomorrow i guess, i have another veccy b sri 2.2 51 plate on the driveway i bought for 100 quid just needs chain and a couple of valves and im thinking of movin onto that to give my brain a rest ha ha

i maybe wrong but i thought the power lead to the starter motor comes from the alternator or does it run off a direct feed from the ignition switch

does the padlock light on the dash appear when u put ignition on ?

hi mike, there is no padlock light on the dash, the main feed for the starter comes directly from the battery but i dont know where the little wire from the starter leads to i thought it was the ignition but i will trace it back, you never know

i would try source a 2nd hand ecu / chip / transponder, they only about £50

it does sound like an immobiliser fault, that stops the engine turning over and cuts the fuel

did you fit a matching set of 1 - ecu, 2 - transponder (goes over the steering lock), 3 - ignition key chip

they must all be from the same car, either the donor vehicle or the original set, not mixed !

just dropped in a vectra b engine into a vectra c

i used the ecu etc off the vectra c, the car was running for an hour or so then just stopped this has really baffled me, i might try and see if an auto electrician could sort it for me
