WANTED Cylinder head

Hey guys... I'm getting quite desperate to find a good cylinder head for the z22se engine now... if anyones got one available please get in touch. must be a decent head though... (not likely to cause oil loss/coolant loss/ burning oil etc)... and preferably a complete head with all cams and valves etc.

Just an update... i dont need this anymore... sourced one off eBay... 200 quid. it had been re-conned about 370 miles ago the guy said.

The car it came off was an astra and its going on a vectra b... this wont matter at all will it?

The story goes that the car had problems with the timing chain... dont know if it snapped or what... but there you go.
They replaced 16 valves, valve guides, stem seals and had the head skimmed and pressure tested.
put it back on the car, sent it out and it was burning oil... turned out the piston rings were nackered.

when they stripped it down they said something else was wrong with the bottom end also... so rather than fucking about they fit a second hand engine and sold the head off to try and make some of the money back. not a bad price for a fully re-conned head :thumbup:

you will need to swap over the inlet cam as the vectra requires a hex drive for the power steering pump and the astra cam doesn't have this.

you might be lucky and already have the hex drive cam, but please check as you can easily swap this whilst the head is off the car

thanks vocky... will check this before the head gets changed. is that the only difference?

you say about being lucky and already having the hex drive...? i take it some astras did use it then? notsure.gif

the inlet cam hex drive is the only difference :thumbup:

knowing vauxhall they might have used a vectra cam by mistake :lol:

haha... nice 1 mate..

might be a stupid question... but im not really used to dealing with anything inside the engine... the hex drive im guessing will be on the chain-end of the shaft??

no, it's on the other end (near the egr valve)

the vectra has a pump bolted to the head, the astra has an alloy blanking plate instead

ahhh yes... i think i remember noticing that... cheers mate. :thumbup:

if you look inside where the pump bolts you will see the end of the inlet cam, there should be a hex shaped hole in the cam for the vectra power steering pump

to swap the cam is very easy, just undo the bolts, swap the cams, then reassemble with a little sealant on the end housing joint where it touches the head

almost forgot, the 10mm bolts are only torqued to 8 ft lb's

<u>do not overtighten these</u> the bolts will stretch and snap :thumbdown:
