Nazlloyd i have just had my fan belt changed and now when i accelerate when the engine is cold i can hear a rattling sound coming from under the bonnet.. rattles with the revs.. i dont know if the fan belt has anything to do with it.. could it be the tensioners or anything like that.. Cheers Naith
MikeS need to find where the rattling is coming from usually if it is the chain it feels like it is hitting the underneath of the cam cover so worth starting her up and putting your hand on the left hand side of the cam cover also check your oil level
rik1083 well our engine doesnt have a fan belt, do you mean the alternator belt? There is a tensioner on it where the bearings do wear out after a while but it wouldn't happen all at once
rik1083 MikeS said: and the noise is hardly noticeable with the chain ? He's talking about a belt not a chain?
vocky it could be that the tighter belt is making the tensioner squeal, the bearing probably needs regreasing
MikeS yeh i know 🙂 i said with the chain being there it is harder to diagnose tensioner fault on belt let alone hear it
Nazlloyd thanks i will check the bearing on the tensioner and will grease it up and see if that help... thanks vocky
