vectra c 2.2 wont start any ideas ??

Hi Guys, just replaced the engine in my vectra c with an engine from a vectra b, it started first time no probs, but it was idling at 1400rpm and would not come down, i left it running for about an hour checking for leaks etc and it just died on its own, when i turn the key now all i am getting is a clicking from the glove box area and the starter motor doesn't kick in, i have tested the starter motor and it is fine engine is free as i have manually turned it Any ideas for me to look at would be really appreciated guys

high tickover will be an air leak, is the centre gasket fitted between 2+3 ports ?

non starting, check the fuses notsure.gif

cheers Vocky i will check the inlet manifold as i did swap them over and go through all of the fuses

i have checke every fuse in the car and they are all ok, strange thing is the Engine Management light isnt coming on it should at least illuminate when the ignition is just turned on and when i plug the diagnostic reader in it is saying it cannot connect and to check connections notsure.gif it worked fine before i changed the engine help :cry:

fuel pump relay & engine ecu relay

Hi_Mike, funny you should say that because the fuel pump relay is clicking (sounds like hazards are on) but fuel pump is pulsing and sending fuel in spurts to the fuel rail bar this happens just with the ignition on without the engine running, have you any idea where i would find the ECU Relay on a vectra C they have 3 fuse and relay boxes, went and bought a haynes manual but its not much help as it doesn't go into enough detail around ECU

both of are purple

if the reader is not picking up the ecu and u know the reader works on can bus then it is either a bad earth, ecu relay or fubar ecu

Hi mike whats a fubar sorry to appear thick, the reader definitely works and works on ths vectra c as i have had the car for 5 years and have used the reader previously on it, the strange thing was, the car was running on tickover for about an hour and it just spluttered and died then when i went to restart it ... nothing just a click from the passenger wheelwell, the relay that i thought was the fuel pump relay clicking isnt purple though it is a reddy brown colour and the one that clicks when i turn the ignition to the start position is yell notsure.gif

well, after checking loads of wires, nothing different but the EMS light is now showing on the dash but the code reader still wont establish a link with the ecu and it still wont crank :think:

hi mike,
it was a cheapie, about £60 off ebay, it has always worked on the car and still works on other cars, since i replaced the engine it wont connect to the ecu, even though its the original ecu off the car that it was reading before ????

i would have a thorough look at your wiring loom and investigate it further

if your engine management light is coming on with ignition then i doubt it is buggered

could be a simple thing such as putting the wrong connector on a wrong sensor

a poor connection at either the throttle body or crank sensor will stop the engine from starting

nope

crank will stop spark and fuel

throttle body will just not meter the air and it might start up but cut out

worth downloading TIS 2000 [08 update] and follow the diagnostic checks, u will need a volt meter to check everything

do a search or alternatively pm me and i can post u a copy for a small price
