overfilled the oil...

After an oil and filter change a week and a half ago, im beginning to think i overfilled the oil.

Theres oil patches under the car and the bottom part of the engine has oil on.

I take it ive knackered the seals? Can it still be driven?

Crank seal maybe leaking?? What is the dipstick showing? You need to chaeck the oil whilst on level ground. TBH, the dipsticks on the z22se are a bit iffy. I usually take the cap off, wait a few minutes and then take out the stick, clean off, put it back in, turn it round 360 degrees and then take it out and check it.

If you have too much in then let some out again.

Yeah i'm gonna let some out tmoro, i'm concerned ive done some real damage though!

Can the car still be driven after sorting the oil level out?

Where abouts is the crank seal located - is it straightforward to replace?

the gear box has to be removed to replace the cranki seal!! sorry but see how ya get on once you have drained a little out.

Don't forget the crank seal at the timing chain end too. Bottom pulley has to come off.

I did drain a little out this morn but there is still oil under the car now

Am i right in saying that the car can still be driven though, i understand i'll have to top up the oil from time to time.
What would a garage charge to do the seal(s)?

Ok, drained all the oil and then replaced with new to about 3/4 on the dipstick - still leaks :thumbdown:

Got it booked in on monday at a local garage - i'll let you know the damage... 🙁

Found the problem, was a cracked oil filter cap - only a hairline crack but it was enough to pi55 out oil when under pressure.

Job sorted - 40 quid from vx 🙁

MIne done exactly the same mate
it must be a mixture of the crack and the pressure as I left the filter cap full of parafin and it never leaked but mine didn't cost that much though good old trade club. at least it comes with the oil filter and cap seal which would cost about £15 together the seal alone is about £6 IIRC?

My old astra had a leak there, apparently it's a common failure

It was £35.65 from vauxhall for the part - the oil filter cap and oil filter.
