hit by police car !

going through a junction in birmingham

going down St Margarets road to the Bromford lane junction and going straight over on a green light, pig car goes over grass verge and drives straight into the side of the passenger side wing, didn't see him, didn't hear him and i was doing 20 - 25 mph, he started his sirens as he pulled out into middle of junction, in the space of 3 hours i had insurance company on fone, car hire company and insurance solicitors and been to see a doctor giving 10 mins notice lol, looks like i be suing the bastards as insurance is going for non fault accident, a car did stop in front of me as i entered junction but they turned left at junction and stopped, i just thought it was a normal Birmingham driver

the accident happened 4 days after getting the car back after the rear end smack and 4 hours after paying £330 for the clutch and oil leak

here is the damage

I dont think the car is a write off as i drove it back to my girlfriends pad but the front tyre is near enough shredded due to the inner arch rubbing on it, ironic thing is that the engine / box is not leaking any fluids and the gearbox is working fine and she is steering in a straight line, looks like tyre / alloy damage, front wing, front bumper & grille, possible suspension and steering gear damage, also the washer tank exploded on impact pmsl

i was in tears last night due to the pain in my neck and bruised ego, how can the same shit happen to the same guy in the space of 4 weeks, 2 accidents that weren't my fault

really sorry to hear this mate, hope things get better and you will get this sorted, i've heard the police are good a sorting damage if they are at fault

spoke to one of them desk jockeys when doing the producer today and he said they will pay out

got the car back on Friday morning after replacing clutch and cylinder, main seal & drive shaft seal

it came to £330 in the end but touch wood no signs of leaks from box or block but now it is a bit irrelevant

looking at that photo more and more i can see why i didnt see him until he pulled out, the car in front turned left and stopped on the dual carriageway thus blocking my view and then i had to contend with 2 lines of traffic at that junction whilst he drove over the grass embankment, also had tree and traffic lights on central reservation

as your lights where green the police car can only come though red light with his sirens on after looking as they MUST give way.
as if there were give way lines at the junction.

solicitor said that if it was an urgent call then why did they stop considering it did not immobilise both cars and both parties were fine, his car had hardly any damage cos his bumper took the impact

if you had right of way - green light - then they are at fault, they do not have automatic right of way even with lights and siren

they must approach the junction with caution and be prepared to stop, which they failed to do

as Vocky says you go about your normal driving even if you are stopped at a junction at lights and a police car comes up behind you to thru u don't have to move because the police are trained to get round obstacles, i read once an ambulance approached a red light and a driver drove forward to let him thru he got flashed and points and fine. but if the police say they will pay out that's good at least they ain't being arses like the typical insurance companies all insurance companies are the same wankers and money grabbers they take your cash nice n fast and delay when it come to paying out

i been driving for 13 years and apart form the last 3 weeks or so, i never had a smack in my own car

in 2007 my calibra was parked outside a shop and some learner reversed in the rear quarter panel and left a one foot ding, luckily he just paid up £400 and i paid a bit extra for a full respray [didnt go through insurance]

from my recollection usually when police / ambulances go through red lights they tend to stop then creep out a few feet to make sure oncoming are aware of em and that they stop, this bloke went kamikaze

i have calmed down a bit now and just took out my anger on the mountain bike today 🙂

i dont think the car is a write off, could be a bolloxed suspension arm, strut but i am confident the drivershaft, gearbox & engine are oki

sorry to here this Mike sounds a bit like what happened with my car a about 3 years ago but not the plice
car ran into the back of my car off the slip road of the motor way new back end replaced bumper / boot panel /tailgate
had it back for a week when car was parked out side house a nun ran into the back of it again
insurance wrote it off
hope yours gets sorted

i will have a look tomorrow and check underneath but so far it is;

wing
bumper
grille
headlight
alloy
tyre

think bonnet has been moved across and touched the other wing as well

but if any suspension or steering is damaged then i fear it will be written off
