2.2 astra coupe problems

Hi guys, (great site btw)

I have a 2004 2.2 astra coupe, a few weeks back I noticed the car jurking when backing off the accelerator on the motorway, followed by the car cutting out when approaching junctions. I spoke to someone who suggested it may be the MAF sensor (he plugged in a small device to read the ECU error codes), however I’ve done a little research and im not sure my car has a MAF sensor, is this correct? If the problem is not a MAF sensor can anyone shed any light on my problem? In addition the car is using a shed load of fuel compared to a few weeks ago.

New to the forum, so any help will be greatly appreciated, as I seem to be going round in circles trying to find out what the problem is.

Prob the EGR valve sticking? there is No MAF sensor on the Z22se just a MAP sensor

EGR vavle, any way to confirm this?

I take it the MAP sensor wouldn't cause these problems?

reading through other posts im pressuming the best thing to do is fit a blanking plate and cheater?

if you have no EML on you could just fit/ make a blanking plate??

The EML was on for about a week, then my starter motor went (other story lol) since i got it back the EML is no longer on, i think it hasn't came on since ECU was reset.

For the sake of a tenner i'll prob be better off fitting it, will this have much affect on the engine, been trying to look through previous posts, no one seems to recommend replacing the EGR valve.

The only affect of removing the valve is for the better (no hot exhaust gasses in the inlet.)

I've tried removing the EGR v/v this morning, is there any easy way to remove the rear bolt closest to the engine, its a nightmare for access, plus i've noticed a fair bit of oil on the engine case behind the egr v/v, doesn't look good.

just an extension bar from what i remember, might be a few harness clips in the way but u just use a screwdriver on em then use some cable ties if u want it secured again

you think that is bad then try bolting up a piper exhaust manifold lol

that rear bolt is a pain i got it with a short ring spanner once its loose you can spin the egr valve out of position to give you better access hope this helps :thumbup:

Got it!!!! only after i did my best 'uri geller' impression on a 13mm ring spanner
