Slack chain??

Hi there, how much slack should there be in the chain? I took my cam cover off to check it, and I can move the chain about on the sprockets and there is loads of slack between the sprockets. Deflection is around 25mm... Am I right to be worried? :wtf:

i would pm benny as no doubt he has seen hundreds of chains and can advise u on the best course of action

there should be little to no movement in the chain, get it replaced asap

Will do. My Astra has done 55K with FSH, the chain needing replacement at this age and mileage is a bit p*ss poor? notsure.gif
Vauxhall need to get real with the replacement schedule on these chains.

im having mine done with Daz at newport next month as a precaution.
the paranoia from all the slack/snapped posts on here has put the shits up me coz i have the odd rattle for around 5mins after cold start.
most seem to go at around 60summit im up to 78000 at the mo. i also thought they were lifetime chains.

thats the problem with mine mate. start it in the morning and you can here the chain jumping like nothing else untill it warms up ( about 2 mins ) been told its a lazy tensioner as its great all day only does it when its stood for about 8 hrs.
not taking the chance got a kit and getting it done this week.
my car had a kit fitted by a main dealer 25,000 ago after the old one snapped a mate of mine worked for vauxhall and said that they proberly only changed the chain and tensioner as they never change the whole lot.
dont take the chance change the lot!

I think they did revise the service/cam chain change schedual
not that their admitting to a common fault

just got my car back tonight got the cam chain kit done and balance chain kit as that was slapping against the casing. well worth the £390 to have it done the cars never run so good.

is there anyway of telling if the chain has ever been changed if no history is available, ive just bought a Y reg vectra hatch 2.2 sri and i have no history with the car, also i have no money to have the chain kit done as i spent all the money buying the car, i only bought it because it was cheap,

take cam cover off and look at sprockets on chain, should be 2 coloured tabs on each cam pulley
