Astra Coupe 2.2 Hesitation

Hello Guys,

I am new to this so bear with me. I have bought an Astra Coupe 2.2 'x' 2000, done 70k. It starts fine and runs fine for the next few minutes but when the engine gets up to temperature the engine is a bit rough on idle, to the point where it has cut out a couple of times although this is not very often. The power delivery isnt very smooth either, below 3000rpm it can be really jerky.

When you are sitting in 1st or 2nd gear in traffic, the car also kangaroos with no input from myself. The car seems to be using quite alot of fuel as well so im really keen to sort it out asap.

It doesnt seem to change gear very smoothly either however softly i attempt to change gear. I am thinking that it might be something to do with the Throttle Body or the Throttle Position Sensor.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Hello and welcome to the site
Have you replaced the spark plugs? could be that or the coil pack?

You could clean the TB out first though as this wouldn't cost much to do.

it could be a number of things, is the EML lit on the dash?

in answer to the above questions, i have done a full service including Spark Plugs, Oil, Oil Filter, Fuel Filter but i have not done the coil Pack. There are no lights on the dash either.

try the egr valve... mine did that it was fine when cold but when hot just wanted to die all the time

coil packs don't throw EML codes do they? clean ur throttle body out as said above as that helped mine, could be egr packing up or Ive heard someone say replace the CTS (Coolant Temp Sensor)

Thanks for all your help so far, Halfords dont seem to do Carb Cleaner so i guess i'll be taking the whole throttle body off to clean it.

Can anyone help me on where the EGR Valve is located, only had the car a couple of months.

halfrauds do sell it, u can use brake cleaner on it but make sure u take the TB off the manifold before spraying it

EGr valve is cylinder type looking object to the right hand side of the head with a connector on the top

as Mikes said hellfrauds do sell it. m8 and its near the cleaning products just ask one of the wanker staff lol

lol thanks mike, couple of points though,

1) i used to work at Halfords, i liked to think of myself as one of the more qualified staff lol

2)i spoke to both branches near me and went to one of them and they didnt sell it.

i hope ur not like my local halfords staff........ they are painfull m8......... if u cant find it in hellfrauds try a local automated shop or motoworld or even asda in the diy section.

Your engine doesn't look like this m8 but the EGR is in the same place ..... make sure engine is off and unplug the connector on top of the egr the the 2 bolts holding it down take it off and give that a clean make sure you put the metal gasket back on tho

to be fair hyalfrauds has gone badly down hill at both of our locals you can't get shit, unless you want a cherry bomb exhaust tip or a homer simpson magic tree

its alright for you.... the only reason i end up going in there nowadays is coz the mrs wants a 'hello kitty' steering wheel cover n some seat covers,
funnily enough they got them on a shelf(it looked quite lonely except for the cherry bombs).... didn't seem to make her clio go any fater tho.
hmmm back to the drawing board......
