OK this has been on my list for a long time so I'm on the lookout for one anyhow Ive noticed that some of them don't declare the engines and have them as a 1.2 or whatever on the logbook which is shocking but my question is how they are getting away with it as when you got for your mot it would show their?

when have u ever had to show your logbook for a MOT

might say something different on the MOT certificate though

I dont think garages would risk it tbh lying about the engine capacity especially if it is not road worthy and falls apart due to the power

you dont show your logbook but the mot must know right? i mean anyone can tell a 1.2 compared to a 2l T .................... when u change you engine capacity you also have to inform the DVLA amd i correct? if so any mot station should know

So they insure a corsa turbo as a 1.2 :crazy: , surely it not worth the premium drop vs the risk of claiming or being claimed against if they hit someome?

coz some ppl wouldnt be able to pay the insurance i new a few ppl that have dropped over engiunes and still not got around to changing i wouldnt ever do it but i can see why ppl would be temting at mot i never even had my bonnet lifted but they would be able to see enigne from under

While on that subject i think the law has changed now anyway you can no longer do an engine convertion yourself it has to be done by a garage and a certificate is needed from a garage to be able to change the v5. unless you know someone in the garage trade who will check it over and tell the dvla they did it you pritty much stuffed. thats probably the reason the 1.2/2.0t owners are leaving the log book as it is.

engines such as redtops and 2.0 8 valvers are relatively easy to drop into a corsa / astra

u can even get kits for the engine transplant

Also, the engine size is used to work out the emissions @ MOT time.

Mat on AOC was having issues getting his 3.0 V6 Supercharged Astra through the MOT, as the emission test was done as though it was running the original 1.8

So if thats the case Matt then how are people gettin away with it?

"friendly" MOT tester? I've no idea, I don't actually know anyone who has done an engine conversion personally, only what I've read on other forums.

it wouldn't mater what engine was in the car if you told the MOT tester the engine size he could do the test with the correct emissions test and if it passed you would get a ticket there is nowhere on the MOT test to say the engine size and a pass is a pass
