got that really sickening chain feeling

car is in dealers at the min, suspected chain slippage :roll:

car is 2005 vec with 45000 miles

only bought the car two years ago has all the history but for the last one which i done myself

what are the chances of bent valves etc

vaux are changing the chain they say but should they not check for damage before wasting my money

im sick with worry cryb..

ring up vxhall customer services and ask em why a 4 yr old chain driven engine with less than 50k on the clock has suspected chain failure

This is rather worrying. I've been here now since 2006, a few weeks after the site started and until now its always been the Vectra, Astra and Zafira that people have been having problems with. Now, slowly but surely, the chain issue is showing itself on the newer cars now after they are alledged to have all the chain problems sorted. There have been a few new examples over the last few weeks where the Vec C is in question??

That's not good to hear. As John said, the Vectra C is slowly being affected by the issues they supposidly "fixed".

thanks for the quick reply mate, went down this route with the guy at the service desk, he wasnt interested as there is not full history.

i gave them the go ahead to fit new chain etc, but what if there is further damage

best scenario is the chain gets changed and everything is ok

do you think it would be ok to pay up and then send a few stern emails

stealership service desks wont help as they dont want to fork out

u have to go to vauxhall direct and ask about warranties and recalls

the service bloke might have a case about service history cos what if there was no oil or it had not had an oil change for 40k, that is an arguement in itself

if it fixes it then pay the bill, if it doesn't fix it then start giving them grief

yeh be very careful as they are quite happy for you to fork out even if it doesnt mean fixing the problem

make sure that u agreed on the price of a new chain providing it would fix the problem

If it starts using stupid amounts of oil then you know straight away that there are further issues. Can't say that i've read many stories wheerby someone has got away with just a simple chain replacement. Usually a bent valve or two or cracked guides at the very least.

See if you can get onto Luton Tech Centre and see what they've got to say.

just a quick update, got car back after getting chain replaced.

Was lucky enough although the chain had slipped it caused no damage and just needed replacing.

So as mentioned on here before, keep the good health of your chain on the back of your mind, any doubts at all, get it changed!!

its just one of those things they said!

Must say the car is driving great, maybe its just good to be back in the 2.2 rather than a 1.6 astra and a 1.2 corsa that I had while my car was being repaired.

Another question, what do other members feel? Do i stick with the car even though this has happened at such low milage ( what will happen within the next 40,000) or do i trade it in and move on? I really do enjoy the car but im just not sure i still trust it!

Saving up for when the high pressure fuel pump goes!

keep doing regular oil changes using genuine vauxhall 10/40 oil with genuine filters every 6 months and keep an eye on the oil level 🙂
