serious oil leak

I noticed my oil level light came on whilst on the motorway and I initally thought it was a sensor problem

got home and and checked oil and there is nothing on the dipstick, it is dry lol

now I have got an oil leak say where u leave the car idling on the drive for a few mins and a drop of oil is left but i also notice oil patches [few drops] when leaving car overnight

jacked the car up and noticed this

I got some tissue and wiped it down and noticed a very small hole next to the seal where the box meets the block [ block side], i wiped alll the other bolts and checked for other leaks but everything is dry but as u can see damp looking, me thinmking oil has moved up to other places from car speed & wind, as soon as i wipe it down oil comes out again and develops into a drip 🙂

i am more concerned as to whether it is the seal or should a tiny hole be there, no evidence or cracks of grounding near that area

to make matters worse the bump i had the other week has created a nasty knocking noise on my rear suspension and now i can smell exhaust fumes in the cabin and what sounds like a leak around the manifold / downpipe area

looks like i am booking the car in for the insurance now as the exhaust system cost me £1000

thats the small drain, it's most likely the rear main oil seal is leaking or the cam chain tensioner seal and the oil is dripping down the rear of the engine.

what does the drain do m8 ?

i know for fact it aint the tensioner as the sump is dry and i have had a mooch around the cam area, seems to be a bit damp around a plate opposite the water pump

i would start at the top and work my way down chek the cam cover gasket and the head gasket for leaks .....it could be either looking at the pic a sump gasket oil leak or the rear main is leaking ......

i wiped the little drain hole dry and immediatly oil starts to come from there again

this is looking expensive

most likely the rear main oil seal or the clutch slave cylinder

either way the gearbox has to be dropped

if you think changing the oil seal is bad wait until you ask the price at the dealers, it's about £30-35 :wtf:

That'l be good fun you'l enjoy doin that! I thought thats what it would be thats why i said it in your last post. how come half of that is missing now?

would the clutch be buggered as well

was thinking about a light weight flywheel but first i gotta find someone to do the work cos i havent the space or the tools to do it

I have a very similar problem I am sure it's the crank main! I have been putting it of as i had an oil leak from the oil filter cap (my fault i had to undo it with a monkey wrench and think i slightly took a corner off the plastic nut on top) and it pissed oil down the block! I was sure it had just collected in the gearbox but it is still leaking? but i haven't used the car enought to know how bad, the oil level doesn't seem to have moved?
I left the old oil filter cap off with parafin in it but it didn't leak? so not sure if the oil pressure is a little high which may have made the filter lid leak? and has blown the main gasket?.

i got over 110k on the clock so no doubt mine is wear and tear

could explain why i felt a loss of power the past few weeks

If its the original clutch you might aswell do it while your in there.

see what my insurance company says cos the oil leak was not this bad before i got bumped and subsequently hit the kurb

got the car back and i booked her in for the oil leak 2morrow morning

clutch feels really juddery when trying to get bite from stationary, so me thinking oil is going on to the clutch / plate

anyway been quoted £295 for a new clutch and main oil seal

i am 100% sure it is oil and not gearbox / clutch fluid
