Can anyone tell me whether or not a 2.0 54 plate astra cylinder head will fit my x reg 2.2 sri???

spent 2k getting my engine sorted after the timing chain snapped and 3 months down the line the timing chain slipped and bent all the valves, finding it difficult to get an engine or head to fit it as I live in the country and dont want to spend heaps of cash again to get the thing sorted.

I am not very technical when it comes to these sort of things.... probably due to being a girl and always sending it to a garage to get sorted... can't afford it after spending the 2k on it earlier in the year though.. its such a pretty car and is a shame to waste it though

You could order a head from a breakers then grab yourself a haynes manual and some tools and have a go yourself to save some cash you might feel like its well out of your leage but theres only one way to learn and if your not desperate to get the car back on the road you can go at a steady pace and tripple check everything you do.

🙂 got a haynes manual the other day... that is what I am intending on doing... but 2.2 sri engines are few and far between up here.... and the ones that are in the breakers are due to the timing chain slipping 🙁 hence my query about what other engines are fitting.... When it happened I got myself a cheap run around so I am in no real rush to get it fixed; however, I do want it to be fixed before xmas if possible as I do not want to spend lots of money on the run around for the mot... as I know it will need it haha

Yea i see what you meen about most of the scrap ones are due to chain problems. There are spetialist breakers for vauxhalls who might be able to help or have you tryed nearly everywere already?

This is the problem, with me living in aberdeenshire, scotland, all the breakers seem to be down in england and charge a fortune for delivery... I would not say I have tried everywhere... but i have tried all the places up in my area. I have even looked into buying a new 2.2 sri motor... vectra, astra and omega... however, seems pretty pointless buying a decent running car to fix a broken one! lol

That is true. Is the head you already have completly cheesed ? How about www.vpsc.co.uk? dunno..

I am not too sure, I think that it may just be that the valves are bent, but personally think it would be easier to buy and fit a new head instead of buying a valve kit and skimming the head... yet again i am not that technically minded though.

Get hold of another head, that's easier. Are you sure that there isn't any other damage to the engine?

nope no other damage as the valves are only slightly bent! thank god! vauxhall in aberdeen had in it bits.... the engine is currently in the boot! no scoring on any of the other bits.... luckily once i realised it wouldnt start i never kept on trying it as i think that would have caused even more damage.

You could try this chap, Jay from Milton Keynes. He's a Vectra breaker, Jaysvectras.

The Vectra has the same head. Just remove the inlet cam blanking plate from your Astra head and fit it to the Vectra head. The Vectra inlet cam drives the power steering pump and has a hex drive in the end. This wouldn't be needed on the Astra so the blanking plate just covers it up.

I think if you changed the valves, valve guide stems and oil seals then got it skimed and pressure tested that would be cheaper than a new head. even if you managed to find a second hand head you never know what sort of condition its going to be in so it still might cost you more with a second hand one. if the valves are savagely bent and have damaged the valve seat or the head is damaged around the stem guides ie cracked or chiped it'l have to be repared by a spetialist but if theres no seriose damage youl get away with changing the bent valves and guides. a haynes manual will tell you how to do that.
