Alarm Query

Hi, can someone please tell me the right sequence to disable the alarm system cos i need to remove the battery and dont want it going off. Also what gets reset that i have to reprogram after I reconnect the battery, I dont have a vaux stereo so dont have to worry bout a code, thanks.

it shouldn't go off m8 unless u got non vxhall alarm

if u leave u battery off for long enough then the ecu will be reset and it takes about 40 - 50 miles to relearn whilst doing around 20 mpg

Lift the bonnet and have your spanners to remove the battery terminal close to hand. Turn on the ignition so that the dash lights come on. Turn the ignition back off and get to the battery quickly. Remove to negative from the terminal. Job done.

Only thing to reset once connected back up is the clock, radio stations and the electric windows. Just hold your finger on the up button for a few seconds until you hear a click on each window.

If you try to remove the battery without carrying out the above method, the alarm will go off and its loud as fook! The power sounder will be screaming like mad under the bonnet as its reacting as it should. If someone tampers with the battery the power sounder takes over under its own power to deter a would be thief.

Thanks guys. I take it I reconnect battery starting wiv negative then. How long does battery have to be off to reset ecu? I just do 15 miles per week so take it it will be a month till ecu settles and while it does this am i going to notice anything different?

Remove the Negative first then the Positive. Refit the Positive first then the Negative.

I'm sure when i did mine i just put the key in the ignition and turned it until the ignition lights came on, then removed the power sounder, NO NOISE, no problems.

When i have had the battery terminal off, I only disconnected the NEGATIVE and when i reconnected, for some reason my factory fitted radio was ok but i had to enter the code for the factory fitted CD player to operate.

I didnt know about ECU reseting itself or the window resetting, probably why my passenger window doesn't drop down a little when the door is opened , but i sure will get that working correctly again now i know how 🙂

He needed to remove his battery completely, that's why he had to remove both terminals. As for the power sounder, that would mean removing the inner wheel arch liner which is a right pain in the ass.

true it is , but far less a pain in the arse than getting up at all hours in the night to switch the bloody thing off :crazy: 🙂

This is true too but this thread started off about not wanting the alarm going off because he just wanted to remove the battery from the car.
