Matt did the dash oil pressure light come on? (imho thats enough as once youve lost pressure its pretty much f***ed anyway so a fancy gauge isnt going to save you, unless you constantly stare at it while driving and the microseond it wavers then kill the engine)
Nope, not even a flicker and still not illuminating on the start up I did for the video. That's my real concern about an aftermarket oil pressure gauge, knowing just how little or how much pressure is bad for the engine and just how quickly you need to react. It's kind of why I've always steered clear of them in previous cars as the numbers don't necessarily mean anything to me and I'm not sure I wouldn't crash the car driving around staring at the gauge and panicking at the tiniest movement. If the oil pressure was a constant number and didn't move with rpm or temperature, life would be much easier. Need it to be like the temp gauge on the Audi, that just doesn't move from 90 degrees, whatever the situation.

Maybe a decent oil level sensor setup would be of more use for the 2.2 since its a bas***d to measure accurately
Now that's a mod I would happily pay for. I fecking hate this cars dipstick. I can literally measure it half a dozen times and get anything from no oil to full. It's almost like there's an airlock in the sump where the dipstick emerges under the stupid little cover and then you need to punch through before it reads something. Wonder if an external sight glass like breather tanks have would fit on the sump.. 😃
I'm pretty sanguine about the whole thing - sh!t does happen (especially to me with the VX). It seems like it was always likely to happen at some point, given how much oil it's been drinking. Clearly I shouldn't have risked tracking it but, I guess it could have happened just as easily on the bypass 200 yards from home.
