Disc size for brakes

Hi All,

I need to replace my brake pads so i figured Im going to replace the rotors as well while Im at it.

I want to get nice rotors (was thinking DBA) but dont know the size I currently have. I drive an 2003 Astra G SRi (2.2ltr).

Could somebody please let me know the disc sizes (mm) for the front and rear?

Front will be 285mm, rear will be 264mm.

I always thought that the Front discs were 288mm?

i thought the front were 280 on the astra lol
i think johnny the 288 are only on the vectras

I stand corrected, it is 280mm on the Astra. I must have assumed that they were the same as the Vectra.

Hi all,
Sorry for jumping on the end of this but had to ask what callipers and discs could i get on my 02 2.2sri
i will be going to 17's and was wondering if it would be a big job to upgrade to pos 308 discs n callipers (prob got the size wrong lol)
and can they be salvaged cheaper off a diff car soon as you mention vxr price goes up ;-/

the calipers are the same you just need caliper carriers discs and pads to convert to 308mm discs from and astra mk4 gsi

on that note tho doesnt that mean same pads as mine then ? meaning same
contact area so no real diff?

Pads are the same on standard set up or 308mm setup.

Thats just what i thort, as i said sorry if daft question but how does this improve braking then ? notsure.gif
as same contact/friction area. I understand reduced fade due to bigger disc heat spread etc.
but apart from that whats the diff ?
is there a way of using a bigger caliper/pad from another vehicle ?
i remember in the CAV days some took V6 brakes and put them on smaller vehicles

The pads are the same but would be best to change them both at the same time as to not destort the new disc into the shape of the worn pads.

Imagine undoing a tight nut with a 5" bar and then with a 10" bar the bigger bar will be easier. it is the same with the disc size but in reverse if that make sence?

Think i get it ??
any suggestion on the other bit ? ( can ya get bigger calipers/pads off some thing else
to fit? like a vaux van or a V6 ? or they all same size ?)
