Help...Shock trip to Vauxhall

This is disturbing!

I decided to stick my car (Vec SRI 2.2 Direct 05), into Vauxhall to have a few problems checked out. It has ab obviously noisy drive belt...maybe timing chain which catches now and again and trips the eng manageent light for a while. It is also using oil at a fairly worrying rate i.e 4 litres in 22k with ni sign of leak or smoke. There are also a few creaks from the suspension. Car has covered 57k.

Anyway Vaux agreed to give it a full check up and diagnostic for agreed cost of 2 hours labour...not ideal but ok.

Answer as follows:

EM light coming on, swirl flap sticking requires replacement actuator and rod seals, gaskets and 4 injector seals £760
Rattling from engine oil level very low requires top up and recheck etc £18
Front brakes and pads £160
Noise from osf suspension needs new springs £340
Needs rear upper susp bushes £320

With a few other minor things they wanted £1,660. I decided to leave and just pay the 2 hours labour but am now stuck with a car that needs fixed and not cost me the earth. My concerns are that they cannot seem to diagnose the aux belt /chain noise and that the car is using lots of oil!

Anybody got any advice?

new fuel pump - they cost 4 or 5 times more than the vectra b fuel pump, you can get aftermarket fuel pump for 200 quid new or get 2nd hand off ebay but beware as they fail

i would ring up vxhall customer services about the pump if your car is a few years old as they had a recall on this

the injectors they do as a precaution but 2nd hand off ebay or send yours off for recon and testing for around 30 or 40 then u know they aint fubar

front discs and pads are 30 quid off ebay

springs are about 70 quid new if u want lowered [tuning.co.uk], they might be cracked

rear upper suspension bushes go on most vectra's and people live with the noise, never had a MOT failure as a result

the work apart from rear bushes is relativity easy to do, get a haynes manual and do it yourself

Cheers...you reckon all the engine probs being caused by the fuel pump??

Engine probs are rattly belt/chain, slips when wet and when engine laboured i.e pull away in 2nd instead of 1st (em light comes on for a few days every time then goes out). Choppy idle. Sometimes coughs and dies when started unless accelerator is pressed. Also Vauxhalls finding that the swirl flap is sticking (that may be the cause of the idle and dying...or maybe a main dealer fantasy?)

Once started, no other problems though...no lack of power, revs etc...just runs fine and powers along the motorway no hassle.

Going to get to the bottom of this and cost it...or go on webuyanycar dot com 🙂

Was the swirly flap thing not a recall too??
A workmate had his replaced for free on his 1.9 cdti 150, maybe worth an ask

vxhall wont do anything until u kick up a fuss

the stealerships [franchises] wont cover it as it comes out of their back pocket, u need to go direct to vxhall and sort it out their end then they usually cover it under a warranty or recall

i am sure this was on watchdog a few years back, it was based on how dangerous it was due to the car cutting out for no reason

Just spoke to him and it went in still under networkQ warranty and had the modified swirl flap actuater rod thing replaced along with the rear suspension bushes.

Cheers everybody for advice.

Looks like I'm needing to do the Swirl Flap actuator, rod and seals/gaskets, injector seals, aux drive belt and prob tensioner, rear susp bushes, discs, pads and sensors.

That's without the fuel pump/system or timing chain being checked and confirmed to be ok...but I'm confident they are.

If any of the above sounds wrong please feel free to correct me! I specialise in buildings and am fairly knowledgable with cars but struggle a bit.

Also if anybody could put an indicatory cost on this so I know I'm not being ripped...and even if anybody knew somewhere north of the border that is trustworthy...I'd even travel down south within reason.

Can't believe I'm talking about my 4 year old car like it's a banger! 😃
