Please bear with me, I am new to this.
I just bought a vectra B running on 3 and sorted that no bother.
But almost immediately and ever since it rattles like a diesel! I have read hundreds of posts about this but have some specific questions which you experts may be able to answer.
The car has done 100k but had head redone and new chain kit 12k ago. I removed both covers and have found the chain to be loose at certain times of the stroke. The tensioner looks to work but has figure 8 type wear about 1mm deep in the base. Is this normal? The chain looks perfectly clean but is also loose in the lateral plain. I have removed and cleaned the lifters as the noise appears to be all over the head and not specific to the chain end. The manifold is also ok.
Is it possible for the new chain to have stretched in this mileage or could it be the tensioner? I am going around in circles and need some advice. The balancer chain has a bit of slack too but I don't think this is the problem.
