What Oil (Z20NET)

Does anyone know the best oil for my Z20NET Saab Turbo engine in my Vectra C? Vauxhall gave me 10W-40 Semi yesterday, they even had my vin number for the car and they said thats the right oil. I also checked through the service history and Vauxhall have use 10W-40 before on my car. Others think I should be using 5W-30 dunno..

same argument with the z22se / yh engines

difference is i have come across 1x astra 2.2 and 2x vectra 2.2 with holes in the bottom end all using 5/30

Is the 5/30 thicker or thinner oil? My car has run on it before and it's all good

it is like water m8

u get better performance as a result

but with FI engines then fully synthetic is the way to go imo, relatively new engine as well

Petrol Turbo engine Z 20 NET - Overview

The innovations for MY 2003.5 include, amongst other things, the introduction of the Z 20 NET petrol Turbo engine

The Z 20 NET petrol Turbo engine is a further development of the well-known DOHC petrol engine Z 22 SE.

Many of the components of the Z 20 NET DOHC petrol Turbo Engine have been modified or have been subjected to the very latest production methods.

This includes the switching of cylinder head production from lost foam process that was previously used to the tried and tested system of aluminium pressure die casting.

The following is a summary of the most important features:

Use of a Garrett Turbocharger with wastegate control and water cooling
Modified exhaust manifold
Modified crankshaft / pistons / con-rods
Improved fuel distributor pipe
Cooling system
Modified thermostat housing
Use of additional cooling system ventilation

as it has an oil cooler i be wary of using very thin oil as u dont want it pissing out and your engine seizing up

So being like water it can leak past the turbo seals more easier?

uhuh

the main concern is on engines that have moderate to high mileage as seals are more likely to leak and burn a bit of oil, u would lose or burn it off without knowing

and at over 35 quid for 5 litres it is priceyfor genuine stuff

u can pick up genuine 10/40 for like 14 quid

It's the same on the Z19DTH Mark, you can use either, the 5w30 is designed for the longer service interval, and you can use the 10w40 if you want to change the oil every 6 months.

I'm running 5w30 in mine, and had always had this. Benny got me the oil on it's last service that he did (and yes, it's like piss water!)

I think a little thicker oil will be better for a car ie it will tend to stick better in places. I will be changing my oil once it gets dirty again, not that I will be doing many miles in mine lol

I thought that as well, but I onlt do a few short journeys in my car, so the thinner oil is better suited as it gets around the engine quicker.

I've only done 300 miles in the last 4 weeks.

I have only had mine out once since I bought it lol. I wanted to take it out today but it's raining 🙁

My mate works in the service depatment at a Vauxhall main dealer and he told me that they recommend 5w 30 fully synthetic so thats what i got retails at £45 but got it for £18 with my employee discount :-)
