sports cat fail???

Hi, anyone got a link for a new 200 cell sports cat as my emission light has come on. The engine sounds really weird and sounds nothing like it did when the original cat failed. No rattle at all but I am using a lot of fuel now. I only got a new one a few months ago put I have done a good few miles since. I take it they don’t last long? I must confess I did put in a can of stuff in the engine that reduces oil burning up so quickly and the light came on some after that but the engine was sounding weird before I did that. Plus I had just replace the power steering pump which I’m sure has nothing to do with anything but this all happen as soon as I got it replaced. When one thing gets fixed another thing breaks!!
Has anyone had there sports cat fail?

I'd say u have another underlying issue,maybe a duff Lambda sensor and its over fueling thus killing the cats..

So you already have a 200 cell cat? - If so I think these are border line as to setting of the emissions sensor, there are O2 simulators available which are supposed to fudge the reading a little to help sports cats. However depending on what you have put in the engine the cat could be buggered, but it should last longer than a few months? - How many miles have you done?

Have you had your code read to confirm that is why ya light is on?

I did think It was the lamba sensor at first which I should replace because id say they have run there course as they are ten years old at this stage. Do you know of a link so I could get new ones?

I think I’ve done at least 25k miles since I got it, maybe more and I never had any problems with it so I think I have messed it up with what ever that stuff was which I got in Halfords. You might know it as there are a few different cans with the same colour (purple-blue) ie for engine flush etc.. I haven’t had a reading yet but hopefully I will this weekend if I can.

So now I need a couple of links… 1st for a sports cat and 2nd for some lamba sensors. It would really be helpful if anyone could help me with these.

I got my o2 sensor from Autovaux.

As for cats, have a look on the sticky's about weld in 200 cell cats, also i think e-bay is worth a look.

Thanks pps, I have another qs for you all.. Would faulty lambda sensors affect the sound of the engine if it is mixing the wrong mixture of fuel? I have just had the steering pump replaced and it was fine until last wk when emission light came just as the engine started getting louder. Now the steering pump is very loud but only when im doing over 30 mph but it goes quiet when I turn left at any speed over that or below it . weird? I wondering if the mixture or the billed up of exhaust fumes could be causing this noise. Do I need to replace the steering pump again?

unplug the front lambda and find out

i know the rear lambda affects how smooth the car idles from my experience

more than likely the front lambda sensor, as that is the one that controls the mixture. Get a genuine vauxhall one or you may be changing it again after only a few thousand miles.

the rear sensor is only there to monitor your cats performance, it has no control function. It will throw a fault code if it detects too much oxygen as the cat is not working efficiently.
