Taking matters into my own hands!!!

Hi All,

I've had enough! My Y plate 2.2 Zafira has been playing up for 3 months and I'm fed up with local "Garages" not being able to get it sorted.

The problem is tick over is lumpy when hot, almost stalling. Pickup and fast running is fine, no problems when moving at all just tickover when hot.

After the last visit to the "Garage" I now have the engine management light on but the guy says he can't read the code. Borrowed a mates tech II and got 2 codes 0404 and 0340. Diagnosed as EGR and Cam sensor.

After a bit of reading I have 2 questions about the EGR cheater...

If i fit the EGR Cheater will it mess with the CO2 levels at MOT and where can I get a blanking plate?

And 1 question about the cam sensor...

Can someone give me a blow by blow guide to replacing this on this engine.

I've resisted getting my hands dirty since 1983 when I rebuilt a 2L Cav but I can't pay the "Garage" bills any more. I think I can still find the spanners 😃

you can get blanking gaskets from the main dealers and the cheater will not affect the MOT the egr valve only works while cruising not on idle or while reving the engine

have you cleaned out the Throttle body??

Thanks for the reply blue se2, I'll be onto the dealer this afternoon.

The Throttle body has been cleaned out by the garage. From your post I take it you think the EGR valve may not be the cause of my lumpy tickover? Anything else I could check?

TBH most prob the egr, it would cause a lumpy tick over if there is hot gases getting into the inlet on idle just best to cover all area's as it is hard to dianose a fault over the net without seeing the car lol
