Thats on the major East-West Route in Germany, connecting East Europe, Berlin with West Germany and Western Europe. It has a very high standard, as it rebuild for the Expo 2000 in Hannover. I use it quite often.
It has 3 lanes in every direction and most parts of the surface is made of concrete, not asphalt. They said, that the reason for that was a storm with intense rain and a short ater that, the sun came out behind the clouds, setting down in the west, so people were dazzled. The autobahn was very full, because of holiday-traffic. Fortunately the accident happend on sunday, so no trucks were on the way. That might saved some people's lifes.
