Thinking of buying an Astra Mk5

I am leaning more towards an Astra Mk5 now. I was thinking of a 1.8 but now I am even looking at Diesel model. I was looking at the Sri model to buy, but I have noticed the Design model is alot better with electric windows back and front, half leather seats or full leather :razz: . I was even looking at the Sri Turbo one as they are price ok, not that I should get another one but you never know. The main point in my car change is I need to have a 5 door car 8). What your info on the Mk5 then? What size would you go for? Cheers

I would get either the design or the sri, the diesels are expensive for engine parts (if broken) so might be best to get a 1.8 or 2.0 petrol

I also like the estate version

2.0T if you can get one Mark, easily re-mapped to VXR power

I was very nearly going to buy a Vectra C Turbo Sri in black on a 2004 plate. For some reason I like them then I don't, it's strange. My girlfriend reckons to get the Astra, I would love a Turbo one, nice to have a 5 door car with a bit of power 🙂. Cheers for the info 🙂

dont buy the 1.8 u would be very disapointed with it.
i drove one the other day and it was one of the worst astras i have ever driven.
it had no get up and go. would not rev very quick.
not worth it at all.

Was that one of the older 1.8's (125bhp) or the newer VVT (147bhp)? I know in the Vectra, the 1.8 VVT replaced the 2.2 in the SRI range.

Thats nice to know, so the VVT is the better one to go for if I got a 1.8 Sri

hmm it was on a 07 or 08 cant remeber which one it was just crap tho

Hmm, that does surprise me Scott, as the Astra 1.8 only comes with the 1.8 VVT engine now.

same power output as the x20xev but slower 0-60 mph

x20xev in calibra's / astra's was around 8.5 seconds

Lol, I am finding it very hard to buy a car at the moment. I just don't know what to buy? Diesel or petrol? Vectra or Astra or something else? I am looking at this at the moment...

i would back up scott's comments about the 1.8 engine

the x18xe and x18xel were riddled with sensor problems

the later engines came out with fly by wire and even more vacuum hoses running from the manifold and TB

a lot of them are having p0300 air flow meter problems relating to faulty ECU 's

Whats a Signum 2.2 direct like in black? It looks like an Astra and a Vectra lol. I might buy it 🙂
