Solenoid valve - Tank ventilation

I know from extending my loom originally for the sc that this is something near the fuel filler. If you don't connect it, it causes an eml.
But what is it? do I need to connect it when converting to standalone ecu?

(btw I think I'm going to put the megasquirt on this weekend 😮)

I haven't connected mine properly yet, but I think the idea is that occasionally the ECU opens it (while just cruising?) to suck waste gasses out of the fuel tank and burn them.

Given there's a charcoal filter and vent anyway. maybe it's not really such a big issue?

you do need to connect the solenoid for a standard ecu

I have a small filter fitted to the vent pipe of the charcoal filter rather the the solenoid on my standalone

Would it vent out when you are low on fuel so that you may possibly smell it in the car?

the fuel tank vent pipe comes from the top of the tank, the ecu only opens the valve at cruise conditions, so you will never get any petrol smell 🙂

mine is slightly different, it never gets a build up of pressure like the standard closed system, but gently lets the charcoal filter disperse the vapours. I haven't noticed a petrol smell yet and my car sits in a closed garage for weeks on end.
