New to the forum and new to a 2.2

Hi there everyone names Tim

Nicknames always been 9rk on forums, had a 1.8 as my first car which is now sold and have myself a lovely looking 2.2 astra g with a sri turbo kit on it.

Its about 45k on the clock and kept very clean, 53 plate, i just thought ide ask for my piece of mind is there anything i should check on the car or need to think about checking out mechanically?

I.e. Water pumps or oil pumps, chain oil nozzle feeds or the chains themselves etc as dont want to be ingnorant to my new car on what should be changed etc

Be nice to meet everyone on here and ill do my best to do try and become a local, ill post pics up soon

been reading alot more pages on the forum i hear the chain goes around 60000 on early model 2.2s is that right?

nice looking motor you got there mate.
the chain tbh should not go until about 100k
i think for your year of the car you chain should have been the later type and alot better.

cheers for your advice guys and the welcomes 🙂 plan to do a few things soon to this whats the best way to find out how to go about tuning these engines?

so far i hope to get just larger air intake feed and de restrict air box, also inlet manifold and outlet but other than that dont know what i can do that isnt really stupid money

any body have any ideas?

i know im leaning towards more the prodrive kit now less common than gsi's too

get a nice full exhaust system for it and remove the pre cat.
piper do a full kit for the 2.2 and its a lovley set up. followed by some cams and then your away

Cant seem to find a system for the 2.2 only 1.4 up to the 2.0

also the pre cat included? Or do i remove it? :S

if you look about on the forum there is a how to guide on how to remove the pre cat.
if you have last months TV then it is in there.

about the pre cat went on a link i found on the forums here theres is a pdf off astra sport that pretty much clears everything up,

How lond did yours take you?

would of thought your have to replace a gaskets like downpipe ones or something or that not needed :S

Hello and welcome. Simple mods to do are K&N panel filter, larger intake as you've mentioned. Don't bother with the 2.4 inlet manifold!

Remove the precat, a good quality 2.5 inch cat back system, a Piper manifold would be good and also a 200cpi cat would also be a great addition at a later date. I'm sure Garry at Piper can do you a 2.5inch downpipe inc. 200cpi cat at a rather good price. That would make an awesome exhaust system and would give you a nice healthy gain in power/torque.

that does sound good, is gary who i need to contact as on the piper system only thing linked to a 2.2 is the vx220 manifold, this whole system would it inculde the downpipe and manifold or just cat back.
