Fault codes help please P1514 P1612

Hi All,

The car has been running ok for a while but on friday it started misbehaving. I stopped at a junction after normal driving and suddnely the EML came on and the tickover dropped, became very lumpy and wouldnt respond to the throttle pedal.

I turned off the engine and the restarted the car, it started OK and ran for about 10 minutes before repeating twice more at junctions.

I have the following DTC errors:

DTC P1514 Airflow to TP Sensor Correlation High
DTC P1612 Loss of IPM Serial Data

The EML has now gone off of its own accord and it did not repeat the problem this morning though the tickover was all over the place initially for about 10 minutes before settling down.

Can anyone point me in the right direction regards diagnosing the cause?

I have 2.4 mani, ported TB, piper cams and courtney map, with courtenay modded airbox and filter and piper exhaust mani.

The car recently had a new head fitted by now vauxhall and to say the least i wasnt very happy with their work. but it has been running ok for 2 months

I havent cleaned my air filter for a while so I will start with that myself.

the dreaded p1514 is too much intake air flow, the ecu then gets the hump.

no tuning company ever bothered to try and fix it, but it might be worth an ecu reset to see if that settles it.

DTC P1612 Loss of IPM Serial Data

this is TB related on the 2.2 engine

usually occurs when u unplug the connector from the TB whilst the battery is hooked up, also can happen when the throttle position is not consistent to that of the pedal

usually the code is stored and not active as it needs to stay on for a period of time

Any reason why it should havce started all of a sudden? I have had the intake mani on for at least 6 months without this issue?

wouldnt a crack in the inlet manifold cause this too edbutler had a problem like this i think

Thats right it, and it did have really bad lumpy idle.

Update to this post and maybe this might prompt some suggestions as I cant find anything wrong.

So I reset ECU and cleared codes, i can now drive the car fine for around 45 minutes and then it will repeat the initial problem. So revs start to rise to about 1500 rpm always when Im at idle junctions etc, EML light comes, then drop back down to 950 rpm and it becomes really lumpy and wont respond to the throttle. I turn off the engine and turn back on immeadiately and it will be fine and will drive again for about 15 minutes before repeating the problem except the problem will come back quicker and quicker. I leave it over night the EML will go out and it will drive again for around the 45 - 60 miutes.

This all started orriginally after a prolonged period of being stuck in traffic on the motorway so i can only think it must in some way be related to heat, but the problem doesnt occur when the engine is hot particularly as it can happen after a period of normal driving with the engine around the usual 91c.

Could the new piper exhasut manifold cause this maybe expanding and opening up a gap some where and upsetting the 02 sensor's in the exhaust ??

Any pointers very welcome

To close this:

I removed the manifold a couple of weeks ago and traced the problem, the car went in to Now Vauxhall in Byfleet when I had oil in my coolant, this was eventually traced to a cracked head after being misdiagnosed as being the oil cooler (2.5k bill in total). I was deeply unhappy with the service (but thats another story). Anyway once I got the manifold off it was pretty obvious as it had a big crack in it it, where I am assuming (as this was only a problem after it came back ) it was clumsily fitted by the garage. Additionally the ECU earth had been wired to the engine instead of the ECU so the ecu was not grounded to earth. I patched the mani and earthed the ECU and now the car is running fine.

And the moral of this story................

Also mine ecu is throwing this code,with the installation of the 68mm, TB dbilas intake and 267° cams,it is weird that this code came on especially during 4th and 5th gear WOT from low rpm with the motor stalling immediatly,i need to turn the key off-on to get it back working!!

Any news for a solution??
