Air Intake Temp Sensor mod

Well after a little searching, vec22cd came to my rescue and provided me with the small rubber grommet that houses the air temp sensor in the original plastic intake tube. Thanks again for that mate. thumbup

What I wanted to do was to reposition the temp sensor from outside the new short air intake tube that was fitted for the SC back into the natural air flow where it would normally be positioned when in the OE plastic pipe.

I didn't take any pics of me cutting the hole because it was raining but I used a stepped sheet metal drill to open the hole out to 20mm dia. I then deburred the hole and vacuumed up the debris from around the boost injectors and engine bay. I popped the new grommet into the hole and pushed in the air temp sensor.

So was it just taking the air temp from the inside of the engine bay before then John, and not inside the piping in the air-flow itself?

The temp sensor was cable tied to the exterior of the intake pipe thus getting a engine bay temp reading as opposed to air intake temp Matt.

Not sure really. I noticed it when I was looking for something else. I was looking for the point where all the wiring loom had been changed to accomodate the battery being fitted on the opposite side of the engine bay. When I took the intake pipe off and noticed that the sensor was on the outside of the pipe. Don't really know if its going to make any difference as the car was mapped with the bonnet open and the cooling fans blowing on the engine so everything would have been cool during the setup. I just feel better that the sensor is in the pipe now how it was intended.

Looks very OE Johnny, Like you say it must be better having the sensor there then read temps from inside the bay.
