buy the gendan kit for a 100 quid [hardware and 2 types of software ] - vauxcheck & enginecheck
it works very well with the 2.2 engine

Right o, ive just been on a 20 mile round trip mixed driving fast/slow. car started fine and ran just as it has been for the last year or so, no missfire what so ever. weird stuff, still rough idle though....

It's been a couple of days since my car had a bad missfire, i can report that it has been fine since and hasnt missfired again, also i recieved a EGR cheater today, i wasted no time in fitting it but unfortunatly it hasnt made any difference to the idle... 🙁

i guess the only thing left to do is have it plugged into tech2.

Im just going to sell teh car with the idle issue and let someone else have the joys of trying to solve it, I hate fault finding!!

get the timing checked as well as u said it rattles on cold start

rattle and lumpy idle points towards chain m8

it also has the old style oil jet and chain gear if it is original and it needs to replaced asap

I have a suspicion it's to do with the chain, it did all get changed at 60odd k though but it does idle perfectly when the coolant sensor is unplugged! merr, hopefully get it on a diagnostic soon

unplugging the cts increases idle speed as well - you will fail your mot based on emissions with this unplugged as the cts controls fueling and timing

pay vxhall 90 quid to check the chain and tech2

and tell em u want a warranty on the life of the chain after checking

My mechanic has taken the car and just gave me a call..

No error codes but thinks it's to do with the valve timing being out.......

if it is a vectra B with the original timing gear and jet then your playing with fire anyway

i suggest you speak to benny and book yourself in cos he will replace your timing chain for under 300 quid, and most of us have visited him

if is struggling to start up, nasty intermittant diesel rattle sound and lumpy idle then suspect the chain

It was changed 2 years ago at 60k, has the little indents in the bolt at the rear.

Is diesel like on startup, must be that then! Am going to sell it as it stands as it's taking up room

put some oil in it [about half a litre] and see if that resolves the problem

i seen these engines that blow oil out and the owner doesnt realise the oil levels then chain is practically bouncing off the inside of the cam cover, i dropped a bit of oil in and it quitened down a hell of a lot

try giving her an oil change

i know this is an old thread but i thought id update it... I had my timing chain changed in October 09 and since then there have been no running issues with my car at all and also it's now doing 5mpg more average then before. The old chain was very worn in comparision to the new one and arround 1 & 1/2 links longer (all this after only 40k ish miles).
