Couldn't convince myself it was the chain - just didn't sound or behave like anyone else was describing. So I decided to take the heatshield off and check the manifold. Top two bolts were easy but the lower one :?
Eventually got frustrated enough (two days later) and somehow moved the damned thing. Sure enough I've got a crack between the centre two runners on my manifold. (Why did GM use two plates where the manifold meets the block? The aftermarket ones all seem to be a single piece, two seems like asking for stresses.)
Relieved in a way of course and my right foot has regained a little weight but it still needs sorting - MOT's July for one thing. So I thought I'd try to repair it (before giving up and buying a new one) I can weld a little and yes I know cast iron is tricky but have studied up some and have sourced some nickel iron rods so thought I'd give it a go.
Except - My TIS disks are on strike and so I've just looked at the Speedster club pdf. Crikey! Do I realy need to dis the fuel lines and remove the cylinder head cover to take the manifold off?!? Vocky?
I'm also watching the TMS mani thread with interest but really need something doing soonish.
BTW Compare and contrast A and B.
A is a small group of people , maybe one or two who have found their own way of solving a problem needlessly created by B. They 'sell' a part to solve this problem for about as much as it must cost to fab and ordering is simple, delivery quick.
B is a HUGE multinational. They have a part to play in solving one of the problems they created too. But when you try to order the part to do this they tell you it doesn't exist, has never existed and you are in fact mistaken. Only when presented with their own part no. and field remedy no. do they say 'Aaaah!! That part. Yes. None in now but we can get one for you in a couple of days.' :wtf:
On an - ahem - unrelated issue - thanks Vocky/Matt , my EGR is blanked and cheater doing its stuff cheers..
