this is a basic guide to what you need to do to your z22se to reach the power stated and to stay 'normally aspirated' :-)
step one: 160bhp
remove precat, fit panel filter and cat back performance exhaust
It depends on whether you believe the dyno results or not!
At a recent dyno test day a lot of vx's with high flow cat back exhausts, remaps and induction kits were measured on a brand spanking newly calibrated dyno. The results:
Standard VX220 (control specimen) - 147 bhp (exactly as the manuf. claimed)
Tuned VX220 as described above - between 146 bhp and 151 bhp.
noth.
Needless to say many were feeling pretty nonplussed with the results, given that most of them had forked out around £1600 for those mods that were advertised to give in the region of 165 bhp at the crank. The only plus side being that the tuned cars 'felt' much more spritely and made a better noise.
This is where I am at with my car, although didn't spend anything like that as I buy the bits and do all the spannery stuff at home. The spec is however, as vocky says, an excellent basis to move onto cleaning up the head and the cams, which should start to release some decent horsepower 😃
