lots of smoke after cam chain jump and bent valves

after my cam chain jumped found 8 bent exhaust valves, all replaced, new balancer chain kit and cam chain fitted, now lots of smoke from exhaust, does anyone have any ideas what it could be? Broken valve guide maybe? Any help much appreciated

must admit didnt change stem seals, smoke is very bad though, would it cause so much smoke do yo think

trouble is bought car as non runner for £300 but it had just passed MOT, only done 30 miles since it was done as well

leaking stem seals or your rings

it is worse at idle or under load ?

i would go with rings, same happened to me

i would of done a compression test before taking the head off

do a dry test then a wet test then u know it will be the rings 🙂

found 4 cracked pistons on re examination, unbelievable! 4 pistons purchased through ebay shop redmans. Bores ok, valve guides ok. Car only done 70k. What a situation this is, wonder what speed chain jumped at?

I've got 3 I would have given you just to clear my tool box out.

Nice easy job doing the pistons once the heads off, just buzz loads of bolts off to drop the sump and theres the big end caps staring at you.

anyone know if I will need new bolts for big ends and how easy it is to fit pistons to con rods

u can whack them out but u prob damage the piston

u ideally need a pinion press tool

the big end bolts stretch but are manufactured for each specific bearing, u lose or misplace the bolts and caps then the bottom end is near enough worthless

i would use arp bolts on the rods and for the head bolts

and replace the oil pump while u got the bottom end in bits

cars running now but it is a little bit lumpy occasionally, has anyone got any ideas what might cause this

compression test would be a good start since u rebuilt engine

then u got a list of things to check

i.e egr valve, throttle body, coil pack, cts
