Question re replacing EGR / CTS

Hi again all, as I've bought a new CTS and EGR blanker I figured what the hell I may as well fit them even though the car has been running better lately. Looking down on the engine, where abouts is the EGR valve located ( I'm thinking it's on the left ? ) and where abouts / how easy is the CTS to replace ? I read in the Holy Book of Haynes that ideally the cooling system needs to be drained to do the CTS but can it be done with the system full ??

let car cool down first

cts is located rear right hand side on thermostat

on right hand side of head is the egr valve - has a 2 pin connector on top

30 min job to blank egr and fit cheater

most ppl get confused with wiring 😛

10 min job to do cts

arse to take out cos the hose and front lambda wiring is in the way but it is simple enough

Another quick question - I've blanked off the EGR valve now using the blanking plate I bought, should I have retained the metal gasket that was under the EGR valve ?? I haven't refitted the gasket, but I have kept it just in case, the EGR itself is still attached to the loom and rotated to one side. Not had much chance to see any improvements yet, but I'll be doing some running over the weekend so I'll see how it goes.
