Belt (sizes)

Right then. Finall got some bits in and started fitting the belt. Its ****** tight! But tight to the extent that if I have the engine tensioner on I cant get the extra CS idler pulley on and vice versa. The belt I have is a continental 5PK1270 V-ribbed belt. Is this the right one or is it as I suspect and I need a longer belt? Engine has stock bottom pulley and supercharger is the stock pulley too.

I believe you need to fit the belt THEN bolt down the sc, so sort of angle the sc to get the belt to fit !

Nice one, thanks. I figured it needs to be tight being poly vee. Its the first time I've used a poly vee instead of a toothed belt to drive a supercharger. Concerns me this one!

is running a smaller belt better or is it just the same as having a slightly longer belt?

I'm running a GM Drive Belt. Part# 12597993. 6 Rib - 1767mm.

I also have the US altenator and aircon pump with a ZZ Performance 3.1 modular pulley.

I'd be interested in the definitive answer to the "how long is an SC belt?" question (for the current Courtenay conversions). I'd like to replace my quite badly worn example and also get a spare to have for the Le Mans trip - just in case. Don't fancy my chances of trying to explain the big additional lump of metal attached to the engine in the middle of France, if anything goes wrong. Mine is worn badly enough that you can't read the numbers on the existing belt. 🙁

Got mine on using Vockys tip (thanks). Made it dead easy in just 20 min. It does pull the engine tensioner up quite a bit and it is tight but its on. Belt is a continental 5PK1270 and is about 15 quid from courtenays. I do have the US pulleys and tensioners and a 6 rib double sided belt but didnt want to use an aircon idler so have it sat around.

Must add that I got some good support and encouragement from courtenays on this one. Mark Watts has been helping me. Top chap.

I received the Conti 5PK 1300 with my Courtenay conversion bits, but that belt size is for the stage 1 with the bigger pulley. I will now get the shorter belt (this 5PK-1270) to fit my phase 2 standard LSJ pulley.

How on earth have you managed to wear your belt out within 3 months??

3 months? More like 6 days! An alignment issue of some form that was solved by shifting the belt on to the outer 5 peaks of supercharger pulley and not the original inner 5 peaks. Was on my way to France and luckily called into a VX specialist in Guildford for the suspension geometry to be setup and the guy who took it out for a test drive said no way should it be making that much noise. Luckily they were familiar with another SC'd VX220 so they reversed the belt and re-fitted on the outer peaks and it's been fine for a 1000+ miles. No additional wear and the squeal has gone but would like a safety net all the same. Worrying amount of wear on the belt and possibly a couple of scorch marks (plus a whole lot of black dust from the belt).
