Vectra Conversion

Hi, first real post here and didn't want to mess up your supercharger section with a stupid question...

Basically been looking around and found that there's a lot of you done the supercharger conversion on vx220s. I'm looking at maybe converting my vectra c but was told that there simply isn't enough room for the conversion in the engine bay (because of the way the engine is mounted). Can anybody tell me if this is true and if not are there any vectra c conversions on this site?

Also what sort of hp/torque gains am I likely to see and how does this translate to general 0-60 and top speed figures?

To my knowledge there are no Vectra C engines that have been converted yet to SC. The conversion on both the Vectra B's is extremely tight and on Vectra #1 the bonnet ended up with a dent in it when the actuator hit it and on #2 (mine) my bonnet has been raised on the stops by 5mm to stop that happening. Also my MAP sensor as been repositioned and the bracket on the compressor housing has been flushed off.

You would really need to contact Mark Watts or Jon Shield at Courtenay regarding the bonnet clearance. Looking at an Astra you would think that there wouldn't be enough room under the bonnet but there's more room under Mark Watts' bonnet with the SC than mine.

Thanks for the response, will have to follow this up. I doubt a supercharger will fit at all, really doesn't look like enough room in a vectra c engine bay.

Are there any other options do you think ie turbo route? Or just not bother at all?

Turbo is a definate as there is already a turbo route available with the Vectra C.

Looking at what's on the forum would I be seeing around 7.5 second 0-60s on a stage 1 supercharger conversion?

I really like the look of the supercharger route, just depends what the guys say.

I would say so. I would suggest that if your budget allows it that you go for Stage 2 or else you'll always be wishing that you had that extra power. The Vectra C is a heavy car to pull along and the Stage 2 would sort that out.

I'd be looking at eventually going to stage 2, money permitting. Be looking at about 250+bhp at stage 2?

Save your money until you can go to Stage 2. Courtenay have developed Stage 2 in such a way now that there is no longer a need to remove the head for a decompression gasket so this would save a little on the labour costs. They are producing 250+ easily recently on the Stage 2. Just give them a call tomorrow and mention that you've been on here having a look round.

From what I've read on Vec C, Courtenay dropped development of fitting a SC to the Vec C because of the Can Bus System alone. There should be a thread popping up shortly from a 2.2 Direct owner who is looking into fitting a Rotrex charger system using a stand alone ECU and the cars own ECU though. It looks a far smaller unit but it's still going to take plenty of head scratching to fit.

So are there any other proven options? Or just buy a different car? 😉

Still a no go. Your really locked to what you buy with a Vec C, and i'd imagine its the same with all Can bus VX's. For sure, if you got all 18 I think modules from the same car, along with all the wiring, got them tech 2's out of the donor and tech 2's into the new car then its a go. You cant even fit rear electric windows and
heated seats without a trip to the Tech2 machine. The best one though, by far is if for some reason you need to fit a new indicator stalk it costs £350 fitted from vx and you've guessed, its part of the CIM module and need tech2ing in. This is the one reason why you will never see a massively tuned Vectra C. Technical Progression is a good thing, but its a mighty pain in the arse!

Thats how the dealers make there money. There are a few Vx scrappies like A1 that have tech2 or you can do most stuff with opcom, think thats about £500+ for the software.
