bottom end locked up

i bought a coupe with dead engine 2002 64k alloy cam cover not plastic

z22se now thought it was gonna be a case of snapped chain but the chain is fine but engine is locked up

any ideas gonna get sump off tommorow hopfully either way engine will probably be took out next week and stripped down
to see if the engine is salvagble top end looks fine but will need to check to make sure

anyone heard of z22se's locking up

Snapped conrod.

Reading a few post's on various forums and from my own bitter experience the Z22SE is prone to snapp a rod due to low oil levels. They also seem to be able to contain the failure within the block rather then sticking it out the side of the block.

thanks for that well once iget the engine out will get pics posted of the strip down

out of intrest what did the gasket set and bolts cost oooh and rings lol

have got the same problem on my astra 2.2 coupe.thought the chain was faulty but its destroyed the conrod and put a nice hole in the front of the block by the alternator.

Head Gasket (NOT SET), Bolts and rings from REDMANS-ENGINE-CENTER on flea bay was 146.00 delivered. Phone them up rather then buying on E Bay, quick and profesional service. I ordered my Parts Thursday morning and they turned up Friday morning. Think they can even supply a chain kit for you and definatly a set of valves.

I paid £120 for an engine with a snapped chain to use the block as mine had a snapped rod in it. Rebuilt the engine and run it for 400 mile's before I admited my mistake of not putting a set of rings in. So for the sake of £80 if you buy a block whack a set of rings in whilst she's on the bench.

well today i started to strip out the engine to get it ready for removal

first i found that the inlet manifold was full of water

then once id managed to get the inlet manifold out of they way i found this

now that explains the locked up bottom end lol
so new engine is now required or bottom end any way

I think it is safe to say that your engine is "Mechanicly Tired" (Thats F**ked to you and me!)

Makes me think that she was driven through a ford of some flood water causing the engine to hydrulic and expire.

Whats the head like? Or have you yet to get it off?

yep i recon it went through ford hence cat c
head looks ok but still on the car

right just been and collected my new 2.2 bottom end

heres the pics

now bottom ends go for siily money on ebay

picked up this 2001 x reg vectra 2.2 cd with bent valve so tomorrow will be stripping vectra and listing all the surplus parts on ebay

I bet the knock sensor picked up that little problem :lol:

right got the vectra started today was very noisey (fuel pump wires had been cut)

so took cam cover off and found that the cam carriers were smashed
and that at least 2 exhaust valave rockers and 4 inlet valve rockers were not connected
found 5 of them in the head but missing 1 lol

was extremly supprised the car started

i do have a question though notsure.gif

it looks like the chain has been renewed as it has a red and green link
but are the coloured links supposed to be on the the back of the cams
i only ask cause the cams have ext and int on the face thought the coloured
links should be on the same side to aid timing or has this been fitted wrong

only askin as when i rebuild the engine ill have to sort the timming out

well rain stopped play today but engine and box are ready to come out just got mounts to undo
rest of car will get stripped down from tomorrow lol

but now i know that the engine runs ill make one engine from two

the marks should be on the outside to align the timing to the marks

so the chain thats on has been fitted the wrong way round notsure.gif
