Hi all,
This is my first post on here although I've been lurking for a while getting some useful information.
I'm selling my Silver 2001X 2.2 Bertone Edition Astra Coupe, 81,000 miles. It’s MOT is up this month but is taxed until September 09. I bought it last June from Irby Motors for £2200 but 3 weeks later the chain snapped due to the known Vauxhall oil feed issue. The garage honoured their warranty and had the top end rebuilt by Vauxcare in Birkenhead and at the same time, the air conditioning radiator was replaced as it was leaking so was not getting cold enough. I have since driven the car with no further issues apart from replacing both front tyres 2 months ago.
Unfortunately, yesterday a loud knock developed at the bottom end and I’ve found that the crank/big end have gone due to oil starvation so it will now need either a complete engine replacement or a rebuild with a replacement short engine. I was already looking to buy a 5 door car due to having our second baby on the way so, rather than pay for a replacement engine/fitting I thought I would see if anybody on here was interested in buying it as it is? As far as I can see, the only work needed for the MOT will be a couple of replacement wheel bearings as they have started squeaking over the last few weeks but I haven’t had it through a pre-MOT so can’t say for definite. This has been my daily car for the last 12 months and I was driving it yesterday so it is fully roadworthy with pretty much perfect bodywork apart from a small patch of bubble rust I noticed last week in the rear offside wheel arch lip.
I’ll upload some photographs as soon as I can get them. The car does drive but the knock is pretty bad so I wouldn’t want to drive it too far so collection would be preferred. As I could do with getting another car as soon as possible, I’m happy to sell this for £800 ono
I'm on the Wirral (near Liverpool) but the car is currently at a Garage in Ewloe (North Wales) where I work so can be viewed/collected from either location.
Any questions, give me shout.
Thanks
Steve
