High Torque Starter Motor

After fitting high compression pistons to my webcon throttle bodied vx I started to get starting problems :thumbdown:

I spoke to Webcon (they really do have 110% after sales advice :thumbup: ), they said that because I have a lightened flywheel, balancer delete and high compression pistons that the signal from the crank trigger wheel is getting confused :crazy:

The reason is the ecu counts how long each pulse is and when it sees a longer pulse assumes thats Top Dead Centre, but if 2+3 pistons reach the top it causes the engine too slow down slightly (as does 1+4), so the ecu assumes thats TDC when in fact it's 180 degrees out 🙁

So I've ordered a Nippon Denso high torque starter motor which should cure the problem 😃

I occasionally had the same issue at the beginning of my standalone stuff, but this was sorted fitting a battery with higher cranking amps

Of course an high torque starter is a good move too 🙂

these guys are supplying it, as I'm ordering the first z22se version it's taking a little longer, but they will then be able to supply them 'off the shelf'

I should have gave the guys my spare engine cradle to use as a guide to make the adaptor, but I forgot :crazy:

oh well a little bit of modification is always fun :lol:

the starter motor as it arrived

the adaptor plate removed and a recess made in the casing for the mounting bolt

the new mounting bolt, which has to stay on the starter motor now

I had to swivel the adaptor plate to allow the starter motor to clear the cradle

fitted to the spare cradle

the modified cables fitted

fitted and working perfectly :thumbup:
