I have a 2.2 Zafira on an 04 plate and by the look of the engine number, it was put together long after the "field remedy 1532" debacle, so should have been sound. However, it has been mechanically noisy, particularly when cold, for about six months or so. At a recent service by an independent garage, the Vx trained mechanic picked up on the noise, said that it was a cam chain problem and quoted me £768 to replace the offending components. As the car has only done 27k (it's a "second car"), is a month over 5 yrs old and with a good service history (local Vx dealer, until the last one), I asked my local dealer to take the matter up with Vauxhall, which they did. My initial optimism was soon dashed, because Vauxhall didn't want to know, not even a token contribution was on offer. I rang the laughably entitled Vx "customer services", but my calm, measured representation was met with a metaphorical finger and that smugness that comes with the knowledge that many miles and a telephone line stood between me and the Vx representative.
Does anyone know if such problems are widespread with later models and whether there have been any further "field remedies" issued, that might help support my case with Vauxhall. I don't think it's right i should be faced with an £800 bill for the failure at 27,000 miles, of a component that's supposed to last the lifetime of the vehicle.
