Alarm LED flashing during arming

My alarm light has starting flashing during the first 10 seconds of arming which is indicating a fault.

If i was to buy an OBD2 code reader would this interogate the alarm system or just the engine management side of things?

probably the battery in the siren, thats the usual astra alarm problem

Mine does that, its because the powersounder is goosed, common problem. Think they're about £50 from Vaux or you can just replace the batteries if you can be bothered.

Have you had your car checked out with some diagnotics software? My only concern is that without knowing i could change the powersounder only to find the fault still there dunno.. .

it will be the siren i tried the other bits forst like new sensors and checked all wiring but was nothing put new siren and it was sorted.

Its definitely the powersounder.
I originally replaced it because it kept going off on its own, all was well for a few months then it started again and the light was flashing when armed. Checked the powersounder and it had gotten wet somehow notsure.gif so took it back to Vaux, told them it was broke and got another one for free 🙂 Haven't got round to replacing it yet but have removed my old one hence why my light is flashing all the time.

Does anyone know if there are two alarms/ sirens on the Astra SRi? I haven't got my powersounder on yet when i locked my mrs in the car by mistake the other day and my alarm went off...there must be another siren somwhere in addition to the unit beneath the nearside arch.

Thats interesting, i've just been cleaning my wheel arches and now i have that problem, so sounds like the powersounder has got wet then. It should be a bit more protected then that!!!

I thought the horn sounds as well as the powersounder so it could the horn going off.

It should really be adequately protected by the arch liner but when i checked my unit it was soaked as was the plug that goes into the unit so water must have been getting at it somehow.
The unit looks like it should be pretty water tight so it may have just been the connector bit that was throwing a fault because it had gotten wet, suppose i'll find out when i eventually get round to fitting the new powersounder!

I had the same fault with mine, it was the bat that died.

It was a right pain to split the box and replace the batt's. i would just replace the unit.

But mine had two alarms this isnt the primary one, if you pop your bonnet arm your car lift your bonnet you will hear the primary alarm. TBH i am not sure what the power sounder is used for.

the powersounder is there, because if they cut the battery terminals the alarm will still sound as it has it's own supply

I have a similar problem. About 2 years ago my alarm kept going off randomly so I had the powersounder replaced and all was fine, then about 6 weeks later the LED started to flash again when arming the alarm. The alarm worked fine tho I went back to vxl and they said it would have to be booked in for a check as something else has caused the fault but they would not check it for free even tho it was serviced 6 weeks prior. I have also been told by vxl that the LED flashing can also indicate the key and imobiliser are not in sync/paired (meaning the car will start without the chip in the key) and need to be reprogrammed. This is not the instance in my case, but worth a try dodger.
Since my alarm works fine Im not prepaired to let vxl rape me just to plug the TECH II in push a button and clear a fault.

good news, the alarm has cured its self, something trigger at fault but now all ok.

a solid red light for 10 seconds as it arming :-)

Just checked my alarm today and for some unknown reason its cured its self too. Creapy (cue twilight zone music)!!!!!!
Tho it could have something to do with having the main battery replaced a couple of weeks ago. Not check the LED as Ive put up with this fault for some time a forgot about.
Im a happy bunny tho now. 😃
